Finally offered an interview, now I'm in a panic...

Today of all days!... just now an alum. interviewer emailed me, saying that they received my name, and if I would like to set up an interview, I can email back and set up a conveniet day and time. The problem is, today is already the 1st of December and interview reports are due back to Yale today... will it be pretty pointless to set up an interview now? I've really been hoping for an interview because I felt that it could only help me, not hurt me (I hope), but I was never called for one. I had only just resolved that I wouldn't get offered an interview, and had pretty much gotten over that fact... but now that the offer has hit me so suddenly, I'm in kind of a panic, and I'm not sure why! I'm sooo nervous! I don't really know what kind of advice i'm looking for here, but any words of wisdom would help. Thanks! Oh, and does anyone know what happens when the interviewer gets ahold of the interviewee AFTER the deadline? Will Yale still consider it as part of the admissions process (as in, the interviewer wanting to know about me), or will it be more of an informational meeting to get my questions answered? Does Yale accept interview reports after the deadline? Thanks.

Well since Yale started reading the apps today, it's possible that the information will still get into your portfolio before the committee meets on it. It's also probably good information to have there in case you get deferred.

Good luck on your interview. Don't be too nervous -- I was really nervous and the guy that interviewed me was even more nervous, so we were just a bundle of nervous conversation and tension-filled silences. But in retrospect it was silly for either of us to be taking it so seriously.

The interview will still be evaluative. Schedule it ASAP. Especially if you are a borderline candidate, it could still impact EA. If you are deferred, you'll have it out of the way.

btw, they ar eprobably narrowing down the applicant pool.

5 of my friends were offered interviews today!

<<btw, they="" ar="" eprobably="" narrowing="" down="" the="" applicant="" pool.="" 5="" of="" my="" friends="" were="" offered="" interviews="" today!="">></btw,>

doesn't that have more to do with when the interviewer in your area gets all the names of people who have submitted applications in their region? I thought that whether or not you are offered an interview has little to do with how competitive your application is. Am I mistaken?

Interview means nothing.

The only way an interview will have any impact on your application is if it is colossaly awful. It doesn't work the other way around because having an exceptionally good interview will not win over any adcoms, only your interviewer. The interview alone has never saved a borderline applicant and, obviously, a good or mediocre interview will have no effect on an above-average applicant.

so, if u get an interview late (like original poster), does that mean that he/she is Borderline or Competitive (college wants to know more about applicant)

Doesn't mean anything. Don't read into it. They just have their list and fill it up when they have available alumni interviewers
