Finanacial letter from UF

I just received a letter from UF regarding what awards im' eligible for. when i looked at the example letter in the packet that comes with it i noticed that it had pell grant under the awards section. i applied to FAFSA so shouldn't i get some pell grant??? my EFC was 7122 and i know that's not that high...it also saids i'm predicted for Florida medallion sch...but i know i'm eligible for the Florida academic scholars award which is the 100% scholorship. i know this because i'm in IB and if you take ib curriculum and have a SAT over 1270 you're qualified...so i'm really confused... especially about the pell grant. i was counting on that. any help??

um...you're most definite not getting a pell grant with that high of an EFC. But I'm surprised you did not get aid if you're an IB, or am I mistaken?

all i got was federal worsk study, perkins loan, and predicted florida medallion sch. i'm not donig the first two. i thought bright future covers 100%. tuition is what $3,094? predicted florida medallion sch. is only 2496. that's 75% not 100%and... i'm like qualified for 100%. there's many ways you can qualify for it and like i said above if you take ib curriculum and have a SAT over 1270 you're qualified for 100%. i should call them.

I bet the reason they said you were qualified for the medallion sch is because they haven't received records of your community service (req. for the 100%). As i understand it, the bright futures people will contact your school and get your records. then they talk to the college you're going to and figure it all out. At least thats the way my guidance councelor explained it to me. lol

and i feel for ya on the pell grant front. I can't get one either. my EFC is 6322. We're in that weird middle range where we can't really get the need based aid but can't afford to write a check for the whole thing. it is a predicament.

good luck on your aid issues!

Go to http://www.FACTS.org and register. You can see all of your high school records on there. They update it every time they receive a new transcript (my latest one was March 20). Facts.org will tell you what you are missing for the Bright Futures scholarship (i.e. on mine it says test scores too low & no community service for the FAS award)

Also check www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org to also check on your Bright Futures scholarship info.

thats preety much the same aid I recieved (read the post I made about no scholarship ;)..I'm taking the ACT over again, but I can see myself just barely hitting the mark. Senioritis and Dual Enrollment work is taking my motivation away.

EFC of 7122 is way too high to get pell grant. Remember the estimated cost to go to UF is ~$13,000.

iyea i guess....instate tuition is 3,094..lol

Pell Grants are only awared to students with an EFC of under $4,000.

If your EFC is less than $4000, than your pell grant will equal $4,000 - EFC.

13,207 in scholarship.

IB baby.

^WTH how did u get that much????

its kinda not fair, that some students cant get that opportunity to grab that much money, since IB is not offered at all schools. but congrats :)

Do IB students get automatic scholarships?

^no they have to pass the IB tests or take the full IB course and get a SAT over 1270 or act of 28? something like that. They get 100% bright futures (if they're in FL and goign to a FL school)

i don't know how he got that much money...but it's ALL not b/c of IB.like i said ib covers BF so about $3,090

IIRC, my son originally got a notice from UF that he was "projected" to only get the 75% BF scholarship. But once his community service hours where recorded at the end of his senior year, that was changed to 100%.

well jokr95 has yet to say how he got that much

i dont know where I heard this but...i thought if you pass the IB course, then you automatically get 100%, I could be wrong though.

^no u don't get autmoatic 100% for passing the IB

Pass IB....Automatic 100%. Regardless of ACT scores or SAT scores.

IB means 30 credits.
30 credits means 1 year of Education.
1 year of education means one less year at UF.
One less year at UF means you'll get your job sooner.
The sooner you get your job, the sonner you'll make money.
Done.

Its that.....or Cornell.

^no that's not true. and what i meant was passing the ib course. you get 100% if u have atleast 24 points (assuming u don't get a 2 on HL papers or get E's on both ur EE and TOK). You also don't get to SKIP your freshmen year. it all depends on your major. if you're doing PRE- anything you can credit out of classes but you have to take the required courses so you can't skip it.

Maybe it will help if you read what it says on theBirght Futures Website before you talk more nonsense.
