I'm in incoming freshman to Lehigh A&S but will most likely be transferring to the business school. As of right now I have determined I would like to double major in finance and accounting. How difficult is it to do so? I know that finance/accounting have a lot of overlapping requisite classes so I'm curious if it would be possible for me to complete my double major in four years. This is my goal, seeing that I am unwilling and probably unable to pay for a fifth year. Will having determined my major path so early on (really before college) help me to map my classes now as to achieve my double major within four years?

To anyone that has any information about double majoring in finance/accounting I would love for you to share.

To answer your first question, I would say yes. It appears that when you take the core courses and add the finance and accounting major course, you will be right at that 120 credit level. And the Lehigh course catalog also mentions double majors so I believe they wouldn’t mention it if it wasn’t doable.

On to your second question. Mapping should definitely help. The biggest problem I believe you will run into to is that required classes for your respective majors will be offered at the same time, so it make sense to have a contingency plan. But planning ahead can help you find which classes you might be able to move around.

The only other question I might ask is whether you plan to sit for the CPA exam. If so, make sure you have the course work required for certification covered.

I would say that Finance/Accounting double majors are nearly as common as pure Finance majors in the undergraduate business school I attend. Try talking to an adviser and mapping out the required courses for both, but if I had to guess I’d say it’s not only possible, but even relatively easy to do.
