How would majoring in finance at GT stack up in competitiveness for an IB type position. Is it even on the "tier" list?

I can’t speak on the prestige of GT for IB, maybe someone else can shed some light on that. But I can say that if you have to ask if it is “top tier”, then it probably is not.

Also, what are you comparing GT to? Other schools in the south? Ivies? All non-ivies?

Since you are close to Atlanta, I would say that you need to network network network and get the important summer internships. That would definitely increase your chances of obtaining an analyst position.

One issue: I do not believe GT has a business school. All they do business-wise is management I believe.

If you want to go to GT and land an investment banking job you probably major in some engineering there.

For undergraduates, GT has the College of Management where you would concentrate in Finance. GT is considered a “non-target” for IB, so you would not receive exposure through career services. However, recruiters absolutely love Tech grads. They know the quality of education you receive is exceptional and that you are a quantitative whiz. Breaking into IB is completely do-able. Network: cold-call, email, follow up on leads. I did it and so did others. It just comes down to how hard you are willing to work- persistence is the name of the game
