How strong is Penn State in this major? Do they have alot of wall street recruiters at their career fairs? Do you think the ultimate value of what i would get out of this education would set me up better for the future and be a better investment than going to syracuse university as a finance major? Mind you, with aid, my yearly expenses at cuse are only around 20 grand as opposed to the 40,000 PSU wants me to pay. thanks

if you are a seriously committed finance student, do well, and participate in the trading room (including working up to a portfolio manager for the Nittany Lion fund), then you MAY attract some wall street interest at PSU. Things have been bad in the last couple of years (everywhere) but before the mess, a handful of students would go on to WS jobs. PSU is not a target school. It’s really only a very chosen few. You may be better off saving your money and going to Syracuse if that’s what you really want (WS doesn’t recruit there either but at least you’ll save the $) Or you could give it a try at PSU :)

Overall, career placement at PSU is good for finance majors. But it’s hard to measure these days since things are BAD. Luckily, this economy will probably be better by the time you graduate. Good luck!

Penn State seems to focus more on corporate finance, rather than investment banking. Speaking from experience (I’m accounting with many finance friends), wall street jobs are around, but you must be cream of the crop (3.9 GPA), and have great people skills/personality (network like crazy) to have a shot.
