how is this major/department at pitt?

Pitt has an excellent finance program. The busines school is located in a state-of-the-art building, and there are tons of opportunities to gain exerpience around the city.

Have you visited the campus? If you're a rising hs senior, look for the "Getting Ready" program on-campus during the summer. It's a great intro to UPitt where your questions can be addressed.

I'm actually a finance/accounting major at Pitt. However, I must admit I have yet to take Intro to Finance yet, (that comes next semester). Generally though, if there have been any major complaints about the Business school, it's that internship opportunities have been too finance/accounting based. Obviously though, that's probably a good thing if you are a finance major.

As far as professors go though, there are some quality professors as well. I don't know what you intended career is, but two of them, Chuck Kennedy and Jay Sukits, are Ivy-educated, and had successful careers in I-banking.

I am also a finance major, and the department is actually very good. I have also not taking that many classes yet, but the ones i've taken were not that hard, and they teach you alot. Pittsburgh is great for business because there are so many businesses in downtown for job opportunities. Currently, I have an internship in a major company (that makes billions of dollars a year). Business and Pitt is definetly a go!
