What is the difference between finance and economics? what do most investment bankers major in?

Finance is like applied economics with random terms mixed in to make things ever more confusing. But scratch all the jargon off and you get one of the most BS (no pun intended) majors to exist. But I shouldn't be talking since I'm majoring in it (along with Math).

Now for your second question: Usually IBers quadruple major (one of them generally being pure mathematics). Also make sure you play at least one division 1 sport or there is basically no chance getting the job.

How else do you think Investment bankers make ridiculous sums of cash, by playing around with Excel models? You'd be crazy to think that.

"what do most investment bankers major in"

Unemployment

^lol. touche

Investment bankers should be intelligent enough to google.

^ good thing the op is not an investment banker then

well since you're from canada i can pretty much disregard anything you say. most likely you're deflecting your own incompetence to me. btw you're probably right i could have googled it or at least put forth some effort into figuring it out for myself but that wouldn't have been as fun as getting you to waste 15 seconds of your life :)

getting into Binghamton School of Management(business) is harder than Binghamton Harpur(Schoool of Arts and Sciences)

i like finance, but i guess economics is ok.im taking a college credit class in economics in the spring , but I have to apply and put a major down now.
Should I put down 'economics' major instead of finance so i improve my chances of getting accepted or just apply to the bus.school(School of Management) for finance??

thanks so much

Most people who graduate in economics usually end up teaching or working for the government.

For investing finance is good. They make the most money but the job is not so secure because it is too related to the market.

Easy to hardest in getting a job from my experience.

Accounting > Finance > Economics

Economics is probably the hardest social science.

Accounting and finance are the hardest business concentrations.
