Financia Aid Notifications are up

This is really ridiculous. We we’re promised 100% tuition for BF 100%. Not only do we only get 3750/5020, we don’t get a penny from UF themselves? They make so much money from the random housing and UF fees, sports, and other uni related things, and they really can’t offer us anything? ru kidding me?

Do you guys have low incomes?

@IBathlete - actually BF scholarship changed last year (I think it was last year) from 100% tuition scholarship to a set, per credit amount of $125 which if you carry a full load of 30 credits per year - that’s $3750. But you’re right - UF gave nothing. Also the UF tuition beginning in the fall is $5700 and not $5020. Also there is a 30% tuition increase on the table. I doubt that you are grandfathered in - if the tuition increases no matter what year you are in - you pay it.

Doesn’t UF give any money? I’m surprised and confused…

One thing to keep in mind is that the COA is inflated. It includes clothing and personal expenses which I assume your parents already pay for. It also includes health insurance - again - your parents may already have that covered. I do. It includes a computer and a cell phone - I already pay for a cell phone for my son and although he needs a new laptop before he goes to college - not everyone does. It includes $1000+ for books. If you get used used books, there is a nice savings to be had.

So without all of the extras or stuff that your parents already pay for - you’re looking at almost 15K per year. Subtract your BF scholarship and now you are down to approx. $11K.

I am going to pay 50% of this (come hell or high water) and my son is going to have to take Stafford loans of $5500 for the rest. There is simply no other way he can go there.

Exactly Jena. I already knew UF wouldn’t give much so paying 19k is not an option. I’ve decided to only look at the billed costs. Which, as you said, amounts to 15kish with the 11-12 increase. I already have a laptop and my parents pay for my cellphone bill, gas, and food. So I doubt that it will be different. They will stay pay for it, I just won’t be home.

Before I can check my status, I need to do a student permission form that allows Title IV grants to be used for things other than tuition/housing/etc, such as parking decals/health center/books/etc…I am inferring that this is a good thing, but I am not a 100% clear on what it’s telling me. I click yes, and it basically spreads my financial aid to every cost, correct? And this is a good thing right?

I agreed to it but I had friends who were able to check their status without doing so by just clicking on continue so if you want to hold off on agreeing you can i believe

@Match, you can just click continue and save that part for later (that’s what I did.) On the page where it requests you to confirm the student permission thing, there should be a button that says “Continue” and if you click that it will take you another page that explains the various forms of FinAid and you can scroll to the bottom of that where you will find a link that will take you to your rewards.

Yeah, I figured it out, thanks.
Nothing for me yet.

Well… at least I got my full need met… even if it is in loans, lol.

??? what is: predicted Florida Academic Scholar? is this bright futures?

I also see: Predicted Direct Unsub loan, guess this is an outright loan?
and predicted parent plus loan?

Looks to me like my son received bright futures and can access some loans?

Am I reading it correctly?

I guess being middle class has it’s cost in times like this?

yep. yours sounds like mine @gator4ever. it’s all loans… i’m surprised UF doesn’t give any money. oh well.

how are you guys accessing your financial aid info?

well look at this way. if you went to an out of state school it would cost you $20,000 a semester. So I guess we should be thankful UF is around and that it is as good as it is.

How bad is the Predicted direct unsub loan? I recieved $1000 of it per semester. How much will it be by graduation if the interest rate isnt deffered?

I know that I am in line for BF, but it doesn’t show up in any form on my financial aid letter. I know that someone else had the same problem on here. Did anyone ever find out what was going on?

Did you apply to Bright Futures? You can check your status on the BF web site. You have to create a username, password, etc.

If you got bright futures, it should show on your financial aid award page. It showed on my page and was accepted (not pending). The same is true for a lot of my friends who got into UF and can see their financial aid info. If not, either it’s still being processed or you didn’t get bright futures.

I looked on the BF site and my status says ELIGIBLE, so should it be on my UF financial letter?
