So it's April 2nd and we still have no information under my son's 2012-2013 Financial Aid Status. He's an incoming Fall Freshman. I received this information from other schools weeks ago. When I go into the account it says they received the FAFSA and under file status it just says "You have no missing documents/requirements on your file at this time."

Has anyone else had this information posted yet? When are they going to post it already?!

I called Friday and they said first week in April. Also read last year it was April 4th. Are you sure about the 15th. I have also recieved all but one and UF. Hope it’s this week! Has anyone else heard anything??

I think Financial Aid must be about to post for UF. My son’s Financial Aid Status reflected a new requirement to fill out some loan forms. This just changed today. Also Georgia Tech FA posted today as well.

^^^^ we have the same thing on my son’s financial aid status. Maybe you’re right. Maybe they are getting ready to post. It would be nice to see what’s what for next year.

D’s changed as well. We are new to the whole Financial Aid process. It says the loan application is “required”. I guess this means we have to fill this out even if we don’t plan on actually accepting a loan?

My financial aid status changed today as well and all it shows the the “required” PLUS loan. If I don’t want the loan, do I need to take any additional steps?

I did all of this last year for the 1st time and a parent plus loan is not required.

Once they get all of the FA stuff loaded - you will see a list of scholarships, student loans, grants and what max parent plus loan you can take if you need to. You will have the option to accept, decline or reduce the amounts offered for any loans including student loans. If you are offered work/study - don’t decline it if there is a chance that you or your student would want to utilize work/study in the future. You just accept it and don’t look for a work/study job. That way it will continue to be offered in the future if you’re eligible.

My son’s page hasn’t changed , it’s still the same. But I’ve been wondering about the loans…can you apply for them and only take them if you need them? Or are you obligated to to take them once you apply? I’m new to ALL of this!

@JenaS–Thanks so much for your response. We’ll probably have more questions once everything gets loaded onto the financial aid site. And thank you for the advice regarding work/study. D doesn’t want to work 1st semester as she wants to get settled in and off to a good start, but may want the money down the road a semester or two. Good to know that we should go ahead and accept it.

does anyone have any idea how generous(or not) U Fla is for out of state students? I know there isn’t alot of us? Thanks everyone for the info. so far.

Regarding loans - federal student loans can be reduced, accepted or declined. You are not obligated to accept if you don’t want to. Same with parent plus loans. UF puts up the amount that you could get if you want it and are approved for it. Most scholarships including BF and grants, if offered, will automatically be accepted and you won’t need to do anything with them. Once the FA stuff is loaded, you will see at the top of the page the anticipated cost of attendance, the amount the parent is expected to contribute, FA offered, gross financial need, etc…

@needabreak - UF is not generous with instate students so I can’t even begin to speculate about OOS students. I would not count on much, if anything and then be pleasantly surprised if you do get something. Good luck.

i talked to one of the ladies in a high position in the uf financial aid office and she said that we should get everything on the 4th of April. If we dont, then it will come no later than April 6th.

This is the only college that i applied to that i haven’t gotten the aid status yet. It’s getting a little ridiculous how late it comes out.

Just as I expected. So glad next year will be my son’s last at UF. No aid, loans are not aid. Two in college next year and absolutely no help from UF. Can’t wait to be done with this institution. Glad, too, that my son can go half time and still graduate, that’s the only financial assistance we’ll get. He’s worked extremely hard and wanted to experience 4 years, which we’ll give him.

I guess we have four years of looking at no aid. I kind of knew that once my son decided on UF, but it is hard to look at the scholarships and aid that USF and FSU were offering.

No help here either, but I didn’t expect it given our FAFSA eligibility (gotta love that FAFSA, where is all that money they say I should have? LOL). It just had the estimated cost of attendance and the expected Bright Futures Scholarship. But I was a little concerned it showed no loan eligibility information like I have received from the other schools. I called and they said they’ll post that later in the summer. The guy I spoke to, who was very nice actually, said they are a little behind getting some of that stuff out due to all the additional things that needed to be done for the summer term and Innovation Academy kids first.
