I had my financial aid taken away about over a year ago. When it was reinstated the terms were that I get my GPA to a 2.0 within 24 credit hours (3 semesters), continued use of advisor, DSS, and other services, as well as 100% completion of my classes. This semester was rough and a lot more difficult than I was expecting, so I ended up withdrawing to save myself the grief of dropping my GPA further away from a 3.0. Of course this meant that I completed 0% of my classes. I currently have a 2.44 GPA and have completed 80-85 credit hours (unfortunately I can’t look at transcripts so I don’t know the exact number, but from my DegreeWorks it appears I have 85). I was 3 credit hours from being off the plan, if I appealed, and had some documentation from DSS and my psychologist, would it greatly help my chances? I feel as though I could have a strong case to help me have it reinstated, but unfortunately I did breach the conditions of my plan. I’m so close to being done and I’m gonna finish no matter what, but it would really help so much to have that financial aid.
Another note is that I do plan on attending graduate school. I only withdrew because my GPA would’ve dropped lower making it more difficult to get a GPA closer to a 3.0 that would help me get into a graduate school.
I would be surprised if your appeal is approved, but definitely appeal. You never know. But you should be making plans on how you will pay without federal aid, just in case.
Did you use the advisers? Did you discuss the consequences before you withdrew? Adviser are there to help you figure out what to do when things are hard. Drop the courses but then you won’t meet the ‘100% completion’ requirement. Don’t drop the classes and you might not meet the 2.0 gpa requirement.
You have to discuss things with advisers before taking action.
