Financial aid and living off-campus

A few people have told me that you don't get as much financial aid if you live off-campus. Others I've talked to have said this is completely untrue.

Can anyone comment on this?

It entirely depends on your college. You need to contact your FA office and ask them.

It depends on the school. Financial aid is based on the school’s COA. SOme schools have a different COA for students who live off campus. Some schools even have three COAs - on campus, off campus not with parent, off campus with parents. If the school has a lower COA for students living off campus, then eligibility for aid will be lower. (my daughter’s school has only one COA whatever the living situation, my son’s school had different COAs for on and off campus).

And of course any grants or scholarships that are room and board related would be affected.
