My DD got accepted at Andover this year without financial aid. (couldn’t apply in time for complex reason)
Since Andover has need blind policy do we still have chance to get financial aid? or is it too late?
I can manage the cost of tuition but, if you add travel - live pretty far from the school, but in state - extra curricular, summer activities (because I work) it will be pretty challenging.
if it is too late for this year, do we have chance to apply next year? - i know it will be most accurate if I ask the school, but before I would like to ask here if someone had similar situation before.
or if none FA student can apply FA for school related extra curricular cost? i know choate offers some kind of FA for special activities.
My family got all excited with the good news but if we can’t get FA we would need borrow some money.
We do not receive FA but I’ve noticed that the school does not nickel-and-dime families. This is still our child’s first year but I can’t recall any extra EC costs that we’ve been asked to pay other than private music lessons. Also, I purchased most textbooks on Amazon and saved money going that route. There was only one textbook item that I had to buy through the school bookstore.
@AppleNotFar - I noticed BS has longer summer, means more problem(?) to working parent.
we’ve signed up for 3 weeks sleep over camp during june, and couple weeks in july assuming she will return to school on early August (her local school starts early august) but, now I realized BS starts on Sep. I have almost entire month to deal with.
and where I live regular day camp isn’t an option (at least for us) due to ride issue.
I don’t want her to stay home alone everyday during August. but overnight camp is quite pricy and we have burden for tuition.
Definitely reach out to the FA office now and see what can be done. They don’t like “surprises” for sure but if you have to raise it next year you’re better off raising it now. Hopefully they will understand the circumstances you described here and evaluate your financial situation before they have wrapped up this year’s FA process. Good luck!
I agree, that it can’t hurt to ask. Especially if you explain your situation. I also think though, that they will not consider overnight camp a necessity that they need to essentially be paying for. Over night camp is more of a privilege. I get that you don’t want them sitting around all day, but when you think about it, you are asking them to pay for it. I mean this in the. Nicest possible way. We are an FA family at a K-8 school and that is stated in our paperwork. They ask about vacations, camps, sports, music lessons etc. those are “extras”.
I too think summer arrangement cost is not a case you can make. The length of summer is pretty standard across most private schools. It’s not part of the school year anyway, why should the school pay for it?
