Financial Aid: Anyone get Blue & Gold, Housing Paid For & Extra Money left over?

The only reason I posted my exact figures (which I do kinda regret) was so that others could compare notes XD

There are actually a few threads on this forum where people do that (and it tends to go way into detail). I was mentioning that a certain grant I was hoping to get has not come through yet.

i just want to know why the person from berkeley said 900 isnt enough to live off of a month

sounds like some of you are dissing noodles too

their are jobs out their, it just depends who wants it more.

Daaang, KMT - that’s a hefty phone bill. Currently, my roommate and I are on a family plan. $130 a month (plus taxes and fees) for two lines with EVO 4Gs on Sprint. If you have a good friend/boyfriend/roommate who you trust, you guys should go in on a famplan.

My car is paid off, thank god. Insurance is still, like, 115 a month :frowning: - I think my rate will go down next year by a decent amount (have one ticket on my record right now). I feel like I could get by on $300 a month of unavoidable expenses if I lived on campus, and another $200 for novelties. If I lived off campus, I would just rent a room in some old lady’s house for $500 a month.

If it is $900 before rent, that isn’t much at all. That leaves a couple hundred bucks to live off of.
asphyxiac: do you have liability or full coverage? I do liability only (I have an older car though), and I pay about $65.

Haha I think I have like… hypochondriac car insurance.

oh so no housing expenses covered that was kinda the subject of my thread. those who get housing paid for.

I know there were a number of people on here who got housing paid for. I got awards and grants from UCLA that left me with no loans. I also won an additional 10k of outside scholarships from my CC that will go back to UCLA. Those who get the regents and have an efc of 0 also tend to get housing paid for. If you have amazing academics (4.0) and really strive to help our your community, you have a good chance of getting your education paid for.

@ UCkittychen: killmy read it right; its not necessarily about my living expenses (although most places I’ve seen are around $700-800, minimum, plus utilities, plus food, plus gas or zipcar, plus extras each month) but more about how the university determines the estimated budget, and how I can’t get back this private scholarship in cash, after it covers any Cal-related expenses. I earned it, it should be my money. Same with any state/ federal aid; I have zero EFC, and though this isn’t about entitlements, if anyone is getting it, why not me? Otherwise, take away the government aid for everyone, and start paying back the national debt.

Oh, and I do like ramen, just not for every meal. And as far as jobs go, I still have a misdemeanor on my record I’m looking to get expunged, but it holds me back on applications as of now. Mistakes of the past come back to haunt you, I suppose.

Ah, yeah - I have full coverage cause the car is only 3 years old.

As an adult independent student, I am incredibly grateful and thankful for the package I received to attend UCD and well aware of the sacrifices I have to make to graduate in 2 years. If I act with financial responsibility and limit certain expenses, I can attend school and study hard, which was the goal.

And thank god for Wendy’s dollar menu!

asphyxiac:The key is to drive a crappy car, then you have cheap insurance and you don’t care what happens to it! Just kidding. That is just my own situation.

@santacruzfan it wasnt to kme.

Going out to buy a Frosty now.

I actually think that people should be entitled to a free college education. That’s how it is in many European countries!

really? so are college degress hold less value?

If you mix up “are” and “our”, your degree won’t hold much value at all. XD

■■■■■ nice try pal, im not mixing up anything.

im legitimately asking “are college degrees less valuable” since they college education is free in EU

Hey guys, I need a little help breaking this down.

My UC Berkeley Costs
Books and Supplies - $1,202.00
Fees - $11,766.00
Health Insurance* - $1,626.00
Living Expenses - $14,736.00

Total UC Berkeley Costs $29,330.00

My Gift Aid -$19,704.00

My Net Cost - $9,626.00

So my question is, if I decide to live OFF-CAMPUS, will I still be awarded the $19k from GIFT AID? More specifically, will I still be awarded the “Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship” (which comprises $13k of my total gift aid)?

<<e.g.>>

Total UC Berkeley Costs ~$14,600

My Gift Aid -$19,704.00

Difference= $5,000.00 (which then I can use for off-campus living, and take much less out in loans)

Am I getting this correct???
Sorry I am a little worn out about all this financial stuff.

^ if you decide to live off campus, you’re going to have to report that change and they will adjust your award package accordingly - you’ll probably receive less

If i apply now for Financial aid will i even get anything now? even from grants ?
