Financial aid appeal (Help please)

In my transcript I had overall good grades, all A's,B's and 1 C. But now for the first time I have to send my community college an appeal in order to have my financial aid suspension reconsidered. I already spoke with my adviser, since I moved from the country I will be studying online Virtual College. My adviser is already willing to do the IEP for me. But, I am still stuck writing the letter. I have the letter in three small paragraphs.

Introduction (Here I state my name, student ID number,I mention that during the year of 2011 I did not meet the minimum standards for academic progress which caused my financial aid to be denied for my current enrollment regarding
the 2014 Spring semester. I take full responsibility for my actions and would like to briefly explain what caused my academic failure)

In the following paragraph I mention the reasons. This is the paragraph I need help on! See, the issue is that I was studying in a community college in Orlando. My uncle who lives in Puerto Rico, may not be considered immediate family member but to me is like a father since he raised me as a child. He was diagnosed with a heart disease and went through an open heart surgery. So, I relocated from Orlando and enrolled in 2 courses online then left to P.R. I took the responsibility of taking care of him. Which involved walking to medical appointments and being at the hospital for hours since most of the times we did not have a reliable transportation. Also, there were months where I suddenly had no internet access but I know I cannot state this since they will say "why not go to a public library". It was hard me for me living in a rural area,no transportation, needing to be at home. I had to help him out financially in paying her medications. Help him with daily routines day and night, I was doing all that a caregiver does. And I do not regret it, I regret not being up to date with my studies though! I blame myself for not speaking out to professors on time.

Meanwhile, I was also adapting to a new environment, became depressed because it was all a challenge for me and in hopes of finding a new home since I was already planning to stay here to live. Point is, I missed out on proctored exams, course activities. I was already too late to withdraw..and ended up receiving an F on two courses.

Last paragraph is a simple and short conclusion where I state that I spoke with my academic adviser and have my IEP prepared and my goals set out. I will be re-taking the courses I failed again. I also mention that I am in a stable position in my life and learned from my mistakes.

Enclosed documents: IEP, Medical documentation

First of all I know I should have withdrawn, but it was already too late for me to do so. Second of all, I know an uncle is not considered an immediate family member, but to me he is because he raised me as a child.

How can I expand more reasons to make it more valid? Is this an overall good appeal letter?

Thank you in advance!

I think so. I would not expand on what you have said, just be hones and straightforard.

The tone is important. You should accept the responsibility for what happened while offering the context in which it happened.

You should also add evidence that you are capable if succeeding given a second chance and have the mindset to do so.
