If you have any advice for me that would be great. Could you also tell me how long this process usually takes and how likely it is that it will be accepted. Here is the letter so far:
My name is Jane doe and I am writing this letter because I would like to ask you to rethink you the decision to suspend my financial aid for the 2015 spring semester. I understand that my financial aid was suspended due to low grades, and that I should take full responsibility for this.
During the spring semester I had many things going on. First of all I had anemia during that time and always felt dizzy and faint, which made it harder for me to concentrate. Second my mom had a baby at the end of May so when the semester started the baby was almost three months old. The baby was always crying and didn’t sleep through the night which kept me awake all night. My mom was also tired because of the baby and I had to help with all the things she would have normally done like cooking and cleaning. Third I had to help my dad with his work. He is a hot dog street vendor and I had to help with things like restocking the soda and juice in the coolers, make big ice blocks for the coolers and helping make toppings like Chile because my mom was busy with the baby. The fourth reason is that I am the oldest and had to share a room with my 4 and 5 year old sisters and my 9 year old brother. Finding a quiet place for me to study was very difficult for me because of this.
I understand that school should be my top priority and I need to focus only on school. It is very important to me to graduate and get a higher education. I am very shy and didn’t ask my professors for help when I needed it. I am working on being less shy and asking for help when I need it.
Here is what I am going to do and what has changed in order for me to be more successful at NOVA:
- Talk to professors and let them know when I need help.
- Take advantage of the resources that are offered like the math lab and the writing center.
- The baby is older now and sleeps through the night.
- My mom is more available to help my dad with work.
- We have rearranged the place where everyone sleeps so that I can have my own room.
Thank you for the time and consideration you have given me. I know that it is my responsibility and no one else’s to make sure I do well in school. I know what I need to do and am determined to do well this semester and all the other semesters until I graduate. I have made a plan to make sure I stay on track and get everything I need to do done. Thank you again for your time.
