Financial Aid Appeal Process

Just wondering, overall, how well does the appeal process work? Like do most people have success in reaching an amount that is manageable? My parents are just afraid of the risk of not getting any additional aid after accepting the current award offer which they make you do in the initial stages of the appeal process.

There was an article on here that stated that many people appeal their financial aid and if the appeal is approved the typical additional amount awarded from an appeal is usually between $500 and $2000. Do not ask them to match what other schools gave you—that does not work. Simply clarify your financial situation.

I appealed their decision and basically just said that I needed more and they gave me an “appeal grant” of $1000.

they said you needed more what specifically–more money or a better argument?? and how did you receive your answer? I appealed about two weeks ago and im still waiting to hear back from them…did you get it in email…through the bu account…or mail?

I appealed about 10 days ago and just got a response yesterday. I appealed for an amount that was, “about $10,000.” I received a “Boston University Grant” for a total of $1,300. As SUBlime writes above, they will most likely not match an amount over $2,000. This helps a bit, but it isnt what I was looking for.
However, appealing can’t hurt.

I appealed and received 2,000 - which I am to believe is the maximum they give in appeal aid? Hm, MADCRAZY235 - have you sent in your 1040s and W-2s? I hadn’t gotten a response on Friday, so I called - and they said they still need the two documents. So maybe that’s it.

The appeal process is simple, and the worst that they can say is “no funds are available at the time.”
