The process of appealing financial aid

Does anyone have experience appealing FA at BU? Since BU doesn’t have a form for making an appeal, the task of writing a convincing letter seems rather daunting. I have no idea how to word such a letter. Some facts about my situation: BU’s FA package is giving me $29,800 and my EFC is 0. My mom is unemployed my dad has his own business (he’s the only employee) which is failing so he’s taking college classes & hopefully he’ll get a job in a couple of months. I’m thinking about asking for around an additional $15,000 which will mean I’ll still be in debt (but I doubt they’ll give me that much)

Everyone takes on debt to attend college. I heard that BU requires you to enroll prior to appealing need based aid. For your circumstance, I seriously doubt BU will be willing to shell out another 15k for four years. At best, a few thousand if you’re lucky. If you are not willing to take on the debt, you should probably look elsewhere to attend or for additional scholarships.

an additional 15k? i highly doubt it. usually appeals give like 2-5k max.

I appealed last week and got an additional 1k. I talked to a financial advisor prior and said they will give out no more than $5k.

You do not need to enroll before you appeal, but you do need to accept all the offers in applicant link.

wasony you’ll never know until you try. i never expected rochester to give me more than 5,000 when I appealed yet they gave me 12k almost. my dad is unemployed and we had some medical costs but that amount still surprised. maybe my fafsa was wrong or something…never hurts to try. i also talked about how it was my first choice and i love it and so on so try that too.
