Recently I had sent an email asking the office of financial aid to reevaluate my financial aid since my family literally can not afford the gap between the financial aid package and amount expected to be paid. My EFC is actually zero as well if that gives any clues as to my family's economic status. Now after I sent the email, the office simply replied back with "thank you" and that's the email they sent to me word for word. Now I would like to inquire what you guys think that means. Either they're reevaluating or not considering or disregarding it completely? I already emailed them asking for clarification but they have not responded back and I'm getting very anxious as May 1st is around the corner. Also, the financial aid information was deleted from mynova and I can't accept the aid online anymore however the letter is still online. Please help me out! Thank you very much!

You should call the financial aid office. They usually tell you that they’re re-evaluating your financial aid status, then in a week or so they send a letter.

call the office

Thanks guys, does anyone know what days the office is open? The office voice mail only tells me the time.

im just spitballing here but i would assume its open mon-fri lol :)

Hey wenjen -
I got exactly the same reply “THANK YOU”. Not sure if that means; we’re considering…we’re too busy to respond beyond two words…or you’ve got to be kidding…

Did you ever get a follow up or get through via telephone? I’m not sure what to do, it’s a fine line between being persistent and being annoying and I don’t want to annoy them!!

when in doubt, keep calling and be persistent…dont be afraid to bang down some doors…dont forget, this is about you, so who cares if they find you annoying as long as you are being your best advocate

I didn’t even get a response after I emailed them!

I am going to echo 1390’s great advice to be persistent and bang down doors - literally. If possible, make the trip to the campus and pay the admissions office a personal visit. We did this a couple of weeks ago over an issue we had, and we were able to meet with an admission rep without an appointment. They were as nice as could be, and very helpful. I realize a campus visit may not be possible, but if you can manage it, I have no doubt you will get the chance to make your appeal.

Hey guys, I took the advice and called the office of financial aid and they were pretty nice. You have to call several times though because I don’t think they have a secretary to transfer calls or anything so its a bit more personal.

Anyways - apparently “thank you” means that they received the request and are working on it. However, if the request was processed before April 19th (or the day they sent thank you) they can’t guarantee you will receive the info before May 1st.

They received a large amount of appeals for financial aid this year so they are working hard to get it done. One person said they were calling and mailing a letter to notify, but the second time I called said it will be updated on mynova and a letter will be sent in the mail.

I would still call to make sure they processed it, they’ll ask for your student ID and name and they can tell you the status of your appeal.

@evilinmindbulgaria - Yea they haven’t responded to my email but they were nice on the phone so I would try calling them if there is anything else you need.

What hours is FAO open do you know? I’ve been calling since 3.30 PM ET and nobody’s responding!

I think the office is open until 5 PM. I usually have the same problem when I call the office, so I end up e-mailing them instead and receive a reply within two days.

I believe its 8am - 5:30pm. It’s tough to get them on the line because they don’t have a secretary. Calling back to back might not work, I would call in 5 or 10 minute intervals 3 times each. Sounds like a workout haha, but yea when someone picks up they know whats going on and can answer all your questions or can ask someone nearby instead of redirecting you. Good luck!

By the way, I received a blue postcard thing in the mail indicating all appeals should come around today, but if they didn’t you should send in your original financial aid reply letter instead. Any new aid that comes in will override the original amount.
