FINANCIAL AID APPEAL

@byadg123 - No - can cover about half of this with 529 savings - rest would be have to be loans.

“rest would be have to be loans.”

If I am understanding you correctly, then this is over $100k in loans. In my opinion this is way too much. Hopefully you have more affordable options.

I agree 100% with DadTwoGirls

What are the other school possibilities?

@stepl100 and it will be even more than $225k because costs go up every year. It seems to go up close to $2500 per year so senior year would be quite a bit more than freshman ( except maybe for those who also get financial aid in addition to merit because perhaps their financial aid component would increase)

Someone should tell Fordham that they should “freeze” their tuition for existing students like GWU does.

@NJmom8 totally agree with you. We have worked out a funding plan for our D so she can go to her #1 choice Fordham so all good. Now need to save even more for our 2nd D going to college in 2020!

For those still waiting for results, we put in our appeal on April 13 and received our decision today, via DS’s email. They gave him an additional 5K in merit which makes it possible for us. It’s also around what I expected–I know the mom of a current freshman with higher stats who appealed last year and got an additional 7K in aid, part merit and part need.

I just have to say that their FinAid office has nice people, but some of them don’t seem to know very much. We went to the Open House on Sunday 4/15 and made an appointment with one of their counsellors. She met with us in a big private office and had us quite discouraged with the “news” that they do not give any additional merit on appeal :frowning:

Before that, the woman I spoke to on the phone in the FA office to ask about the appeal process looked up DS’s application and stats and said that she could tell he was a “super” student but that she didn’t think there would be much of a chance for him to appeal. She said that we needed to put in an amount that we were asking for and suggested 3K. The mom of the current freshman who I know said of her experience last year that she dealt with some people who hardly seemed to know anything!
