Financial aid application

Hey guys,

I am currently working on my financial aid applications and find it super confusing. The CSS profile, for instance, asks for 2013's taxes, etc. In Germany, however, we do not have to file a tax report or something like that till the end of this or next year. And do I translate the tax form? and if so, do I use euro or dollar as currency? It's been a really stressful past few weeks and I highly appreciate any help! :)

Most Americans have not filed their taxes yet either. (Filing deadline here is April 15 for most families.)

You can file the CSS Profile with estimated numbers (select ‘will file’ as your tax filing status) for now and update it later once you have your final tax return. I do encourage you to file your taxes sooner rather than later, because some colleges will have issues giving you financial aid without tax documents backing up your numbers.

Use US-dollars. Convert all the numbers to US-dollars using the exchange rate of the day that the form is completed, and indicate on the form which exchange rate you used.

Yes and no. When colleges want a copy of your tax forms for verification, you should send them a translated tax form along with the original. However, for the purposes of the CSS Profile, you won’t need a translated tax form. In fact, you will find that some of the “income” and “deductions” categories on the CSS Profile won’t correspond to the categories on your German tax return. In this case, you have to compute the relevant numbers by hand instead of relying on tax documents.

@b@r!um thank you! I really appreciate your help.
I hope to have finished my CSS Profile by tomorrow since the deadline is February 1st. I will ask my parents to file their taxes as soon as possible. I think, this will happen the earliest late this year, however.

I am kind of confused by IDOC. Am I automatically asked to send documents once I submit my CSS or do i have to create a separate account?
