Would anyone be able to share with me what their aid package was at NYU. Trying to get an idea of what it would cost.
Have you try its NPC? http://www.nyu.edu/financial.aid/misc/npc/
If you’re a desirable applicant, the school you’re applying to might give you a half scholarship. If you’re incredible, you might get full tuition but be left to pay for room and board. Most of the “aid” NYU gives out, other than school scholarships, is in the form of small pell grants, work studies, and massive loans.
Somone else’s aid package is meaningless to you. Even if you have the same financial background, NYU is fickle about aid and one candidate may not receive what another does.
The NPC is usually a good idea but NYU uses the crappiest bare bones one that isn’t customized at all.
As stated previously, the financial aid packages of others will most likely not give you an accurate idea of what your own standing would be; however, a lot of people dismiss NYU as a school that gives out no financial aid, and that is not true at all.
I come from a middle class family with an income of under 100k and recieved a 65k scholarship to Stern. If you show NYU that you genuinely want to attend and make the most of the opportunities they provide for you but can’t afford it, there’s a good chance that they’ll help you out.
Also just a note, I wasn’t a genius in high school. 2260 SAT and 4.0/5.33 GPA are average for Stern, but I’m pretty sure I recieved financial aid because I applied ED and simply couldn’t afford the 71k a year.
I can only speak of 2015, but I was a rather low income student. NYU offered me a grant of $25,000 and the rest in loans and work study. Columbia offered me a grant of $58K and no loans. I went to Columbia though I loved NYU.
