I’m well cognizant of how stingy NYU’s Financial Aid packages are and how much the students suffer with debts.
I believe NYU’s Financial Aid is based on preferential packaging method. Still, thought of asking how would NYU’s Financial Aid workout for a EFC 0, high stat (1600SAT, 800 SAT Math 2, 4.0GPA, Valedictorian, Olympiad gold medalist, national level ECs, etc.)? Is it possible they’d cover the need even though they aren’t full meet need schools? Or do they front load the grants and reduce the amounts of gift money in the succeeding years at college? Any experiences from current students and parents especially EFC 0 are appreciated. I’m particularly interested in NYU Stern.

I had an EFC of $3665. My gpa was a 3.9 uw, 4.8 w, and I scored a 1270 on the SAT. I was ranked 14/630 students (top 2% of my class) with poor ECs, incredible essays and amazing recommendations. NYU gave me $53,000 in aid ($50,000 from CAS scholarship + pell grant and $3,000 from work-study) so I essentially got
a full tuition scholarship. However, some things to consider is that I applied ED1 and I am a minority. Truth be told, it’s different for everyone. But almost everyone I know who applied ED1 got large scholarships from NYU. You have excellent stats but the valedictorian at my school had just about the same stats as you. He took 20 AP classes, and had the same SAT and GPA as you. And NYU only gave him $1,000 of aid, and the rest of his package was literally $70,000 worth of loans for the first year. He will be attending Princeton next year though, but he’ll be paying $17,000 instead which is better. Keep in mind that he is Asian and applied regular decision. His EFC was also $0 and even he didn’t get a full ride anywhere. Maybe it will be different for you though. Good luck!
I will be attending NYU though. While I could’ve stayed in-state and paid the bare minimum for college, I thought that a few thousands in debt for the opportunities that NYU can provide me is worth it. I figured that I can definitely pay the loans off since I’m only borrowing $5,000.
@FrankieSaysRelax Thank you! I will definitely keep everything you said in mind
