Financial aid at UVM - FAFSA deadline

The school officies are closed for the day but I can’t stop think about this so I will ask here.

here’s my question : I just got the email that The FAFSA for DS was received by UVM this weekend. BUT, I had UVM on the list when we filed the form in November. The school deadline is 2/1. Did i miss the deadline ?

Did it take that long to process? Or did another update I did trigger a resend? Or do they just process after a decision is made ( they post in Friday)

Did I miss the deadline , and my late “received” FAFSA means I am in the last place for aid?

Anyone have advice to stop my spinning mind?

When you filed your FAFSA in November, you should,have received an email with your SAR…which also said your FAFSA was processed. If you did…your submission date was November.

It is VERY possible that the school is now just uploading the form for their use.

Where is the Sar sent. ? Student or parent.
I have a print out that I made in December and I have them listed there so I know it was done and they’ve been there for corrections

I am also triggered for verification. - so is it likely that a positive admissions decision requires it being posted NOW before decisions are announced to complete the package and verification is worth it? Our other schools were CSS.

Don’t count on being chosen for verification as an indication that you are about to be accepted. Most school admission departments are independent of the FA department. Two trains running along different tracks.

For future readers who may use this to help them : I did call the office of FinAid and get clarification.

  1. YEs they received DS FAFSA in November, And don’t know why it took so long to post to his file.
  2. They will send an estimated package and revise upon verification if necessary.
  3. Confirmed that household size >6 triggers the verification along with the dislocated worker issues
  4. They said send as soon as possible to get a clear picture of the package as soon as possible , but waiting till Friday is ok too.

FWIW- UMASS boston doesn’t ask for Verification until your accepted , and no FA package is processed until verification after acceptance. - so it will be difficult to compare options if they are slow at UMAss Boston

@5redheads so getting an email from them does not mean anything?

They say that they can not see the admissions decisions, but thAt it just takes a long time sometimes to process the list sent from FAFSA (4 months?? I would suspect process when they need it is in effect but they can’t tell you that ). But that the package is calculated to be ready as decisions come out.

A second call later in the day helped me clear up a lot of questions about the verification documents, The appeal process and special circumstances. I really felt that they went above and beyond.

Just waiting now till Friday
