Financial Aid Awards

I recieved my Financial Aid Award in the mail today, so start checking your mailboxes.

when did you find out about your acceptance? I found out in October but havent gotten any financial aid packet yet

I don't think when you were accepted has anything to do with when you aid package is completed. Probably has more to do with when your FAFSA was completed and I had mine done on 1/2/2009.

I am sure they will have them all out shortly. I was surprised to find they don't put them online instead of sending them snail mail.

You're probably right. I think I sent mine in at the end of February so it will probably be a bit then.

I received full tuition a few months ago, so is my aid award in addition to full tuition?

What does the award letter say? In addition to full tuition, some departments do give more money. Nursing and engineering are two that I know of. Do you qualify for need-based aid beyond the full tuition?

I got my letter today and I got more than I was expecting. (Although I was expecting very little to no financial aid). It was a pleasant surprise.

Nothing in the mail for my son. We are just in NY, and my son was accepted in Oct. so hmmmmm....I would love to get that FA letter.

Everything that was on my award other than my full tuition scholarship was loans and work study. I am a little surprised, but not terribly so..

My daughter recieved her's yesterday. We had some hope based on the FAFSA. She qualified for loans (3 types), work study AND a Pitt Freshman Grant. She is OOS so it will almost make her equal to our in-state tuition.

So the Pitt freshman grant is only for one year?

im a nursing major and i received a few grants, a nursing loan, and then a couple other loans...i knew my family needed a lot since my father has MS and all, but we still have to come up with 8k a year not including the loans they already gave me in my award letter :/

That is my understanding that there is a grant for Freshman only. I may be wrong. They next year they qualify for other items. Would not hurt to confirm my info with the Financial Aid office.

I got a total of about $19,000 in aid, $9,000 in a grant and the rest in loans and work study. I don't think that's awful, right? hahaha.
