Financial Aid/Billing Questions

Hi!

I have some questions regarding the difference between the Student Account Inquiry and Monthly Billing Statement. Does the Student Account Inquiry show us our updated transactions and is that the balance that we’re supposed to be paying? Since I registered as a freshman in early June, I made significant changes to my schedule and parent plus loans. None of these changes were updated on the Monthly Billing Statement. Since the Bill updates the 25th of every month but students have to pay their balance by the 20th of August, wouldn’t I be paying the wrong tuition? Like for example my current bill asks me to pay a $40 lab fee but I have dropped a science lab course since orientation. My Student Account Inquiry has not updated the changes I made on the Parent Plus Loans either. Also are direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans supposed to be shown on the Bill, because mine are not? I apologize for all the questions, it’s just so confusing being a freshman.

Hi, I’m a rising freshman this year at UMD too!

Re: loans – have you completed all the required documents yet for the loans process? If you haven’t, that may be why your loans aren’t in the Student Account Inquiry yet. After I completed all my loan documents, my loans showed up in like one to three business days.

My family has just been paying the amounts in the Student Account Inquiry, so I can’t say much about the monthly billing statement. I would contact the bursar’s office about specific questions you might have (calling is probably your best bet). You should probably let them know if you’re paying the wrong tuition. Some UMD students say that even though the tuition says it’s due by August 20th, it’s really not due until Sept. 20th (they know from personal experience). They say that the information on many of the UMD sites are outdated and the website admins don’t bother to change the information, so it’s always best to call in order to confirm any information.

Sorry I couldn’t be of any more help!

Hi!

Omg thats so cool, are you in any living-learning programs? And yeah my subsidized and unsubsidized loans just came in today so I’m set for that. The only thing now is just for them to update my parent plus loan (which I reduced) and my outside scholarship (which the scholarship director said they will mail shortly). So yeah, I hope by the 18th everything will be settled so I can just pay on the 20th and get it over with lol. Thank you for the help!

I wouldn’t worry about change in tuition when changing the number of classes unless it means you will drop from full-time to part-time (less than 12 credit hours) or vice versa.

You need a minimum of 12 credits to be considered full-time, and the tuition is the same whether you take 12 credits or 18 credits. There is a max of 18 credits per semester (16 as a freshman) without departmental permission, and up to 21 with departmental permission.

@lola_2725 Yeah! I’m in the ACES LLP. Are you in any? Oh that’s good that everything’s almost taken care of! Hahaha no problem:)

@whenyoubelieve Luckyyy, you guys get to live in Prince Frederick right? And yeah I’m in the STS program in Scholars. What are you majoring in?

@lola_2725 omg yeah I honestly can’t believe I got in still to the LLP hahaha. I’m majoring in computer science! What about you?

@whenyoubelieve I plan on doing comp sci too! I was undecided but I’m prolly gonna switch into the major second semester
