Financial Aid Disbursements

I have a quick question: on my quick statement all three amounts (min. due now, min. due + full reg., account balance) are the same. It’s a little confusing because I thought the min. due now would be 20% of account balance, but it’s the same as account balance. Would I still be OK if I pay 20% of this amount?

yeah, it’s because they’re assuming you’re paying it in full and not deferred

KnitKnots

It is not 20% of the account balance, it is generally 20% of the tuition PLUS one months housing PLUS any miscellaneous nontuition charges (e.g. RSF fee).

Here is what I think/suspect is happening:

If financial aid has paid the tuition charges already then they have covered tuition and all you would have to pay would be the remaining non-tuition types of charges. In that case, there is no more option for 20%, that was only for tuition.

You would need to pay the Min Due or Min Due + Full Reg, unless there is more fin aid that is coming to you but not yet paid. If all financial aid was paid, you then pay the rest, otherwise you still wait.

You don’t pay 20% of any of those amounts.

if they don’t give me my financial aid before move in, can I still move in and go talk to them in person to see what’s going on?

After another hour of waiting on the phone, I finally got through an honest to god person at the Financial Aid office saying that there is a grace period between the August 15 deadline and September 9 (at least around that time) where there won’t be any penalties for non-payment. And my Cal Grant is still being processed and apparently, not directly by the school, whatever that means.

I’m worried I won’t get any finaid disbursed because it says I will get a Cal Grant, but the CSAC who actually gives them the Cal Grant says no that’s wrong I’m denied and go talk to UC office to fix it, and when I went to UC office to fix it they said they didn’t know hat it was and just wait a while and that it should work out fine…ugh

@Keely: I’m in that predicament as well. I just checked the Webgrants4students website, and it says that I won’t be receiving anything while myFinAid says differently. Hopefully, myFinAid is correct…

@KnitKnots check your bearfacts statement. My pell grant and other UC aid already paid to my account but no Cal Grant, even though nothing’s changed on myfinaid. So instead of an excess disbursement of like 6k it says I still owe like 2k. So much for paying bills. I’ll have to go in on Monday and talk to them about it (again)

^ It looks like we are on the same boat, both pell and other grants have paid except Cal Grant. What troubles me is that the webgrants4students site says I wasn’t given a Cal Grant despite it being “confirmed” on myfinaid page. blah.

let me know what they tell you on Monday.

What do you mean by the site saying you weren’t given a Cal Grant? Like it says it wasn’t paid out yet? Or that the application page says it wasn’t awarded? Because the webgrants website says that I was awarded the Cal Grant A website but it doesn’t show any payment being made for it yet and theMyFinAid website for Berkeley says that my Cal Grant has been confirmed but it also says it hasn’t been paid yet.

No for us it was confirmed by UC and denied by CSAC. I’ve been talking to both of them for like 2 weeks basically telling me to ask the other one again…

^ Here is what it looks like and why I’m confused:

Has anyone had their financial aid awards disbursed yet?

I checked my Quick Statement on bear facts and my balance is now $0.00. So does this mean my financial aid has been disbursed? I checked my E-Bill but it shows no record of a payment being made though.

If your quick statement says zero, you are good to go. The quick statement is the most up to date, accurate information on your account. The E-bill is like a bill you receive in the mail once a month. It shows the balance on your account at that time but does not reflect recent payments, etc. Always check the quick statement to see what you owe. By the way, I would check that periodically because small charges come up from time to time (lab fees, etc.)

e-bill is like a photocopy of a once-a-month paper bill. Every time you pull out the photocopy and look at it, it will say the same thing. It is only when you get the next months e-bill that you will see payments.

Quick statement is what you use to check current balance.

Welp, it’s Sunday and the bill is due tomorrow, still no Cal Grant disbursement. Grace period or not, what the hell?

Why must they take so long to disburse? Bureaucracy…

Anyone else get their Cal Grant yet? I wonder how many people did and didn’t get theirs yet.

Welp, I finally got an answer on why it was taking so long for them to disburse my Cal Grant. Apparently they were verifying if I graduated from a California high school or not (Which I did about three years ago) and it should be disbursed in a couple of days.
