Hello, on Fall 2010 I received a 2K fafsa award.
I didn't take the full time units ...so I ended up with 10. (3 classes)
I also failed one class but still have a 2.0 GPA
I just checked my e dollars school status on my awards, and it said I will be receiving a 200$ award for this coming Spring 2011.
When i check FAFSA website it states that I will be receiving a 3K award.
My question is, should my financial aid be that dramatically effected because of it?
I asked a few of my colleagues and they said I should be receiving the 3k. And I would be put on hold (probation) for next year's 2011/2012.
p.s I'm currently enrolled into 14 units for this spring.

It does not matter at all what it says on the FAFSA web site. FAFSA does not award you any money at all. All it does is calculate your EFC which the school uses to make your financial aid award. The FAFSA gives you an estimate of aid you may be eligible for but does not take into account things like your enrollment status, the COA of your school, your academic standing etc. What matters is what aid your school determines you are eligible or not eligible for. A lot of things then come into play - such as whether you are full time or not, and whether you meet SAP (satisfactory academic progress) requirements at your school etc.

SAP is set by each school and includes things like a minimum GPA requirement, a minimum successful completion percentage of all classes attempted etc. You need to talk to your FA office about why your aid has been reduced. Only they can answer that question. It may be that you do not meet SAP, in which case you may be able to appeal. There may be some other reason, such as your not being full time last semester and aid possibly being over-awarded because of that. They may have other rules that affect your eligibility. Talk to your FA office - they have the final say about this, not your colleagues.

One thing confused me in your post was that you said you got $2000 last semester and say FAFSA says you should get $3000 this semester. Where are you getting this $3000 number from? FAFSA does not show estimated awards by semester, but by year. The estimated amounts in your 2010-2011 FAFSA would have been for the fall and the spring semesters. (the new FAFSA available in January for is for the 2011-2012 school year starting in the fall). But, whatever it says, it is what your FA office says that matters. They are the final say for aid your school.

Thank you swim. That answer is more elaborated than most of the answers I’ve been getting.
