financial aid? do i have a shot?

Hi =) I'm a high school junior from central Florida. I've just recently started looking at Vassar, but I'm really interested in what I've seen so far.

My family has a pretty low income, so I was wondering if anyone could let me know what the financial aid program is like. Generous? Not so much? I would really appreciate it =)

Also, I would like to know if you guys who have already been through the admissions process know if I have a shot to get in.

I go to a private (religious) high school in central Florida with a pretty rigorous academic program and a decent reputation.

My PSAT scores were 74 Critical Reading, 71 Math, 70 Writing (qualifies for National Merit). I'm taking a class, so hopefully they'll go up when I take the SATs in March.

I take all Honors classes, and a few AP - I'll have taken 7 AP classes by the time I graduate.

My weighted GPA was a 4.52 at the end of last year. Unweighted it's around a 3.8+.

My EC's are decent; Founder/President of the Social Justice Club/Blog at my school, involved in charity drives on campus, extremely involved member of the Drama Club (have acted previously as an ASM & Head of Publicity for shows), strong community service, member of the school's House of Representatives, French Club. Member of NHS, English NHS, Rho Kappa (Social Studies Honors Society), and French Honors Society.

My major would probably be either International Studies or French Studies.

Thanks for the help! =)

Vassar is really generous! I looked into it as a possible college (no longer a choice for me), but one of its best things was its financial aid!

first off, i would like to say you have an excellent shot at vassar. of course, its not guaranteed, but you are definitely at the right level. i was accepted for the class of '13 early decision with a 3.8 gpa, 30 act, and similar extra curric.

VASSAR IS VERY GENEROUS WITH FINANCIAL AID. i come from a low income family as well, and i was giving everything i need and i will graduate with only 10,000 in loans. its all need-based, so i dont think you need to worry.

you should definately look into Vassar. like nmath said its not guaranteed but it does sound like you'd be a fit. =) (oh and congrats nmath- i was accepted too and am really excited!)

And financial aid at vassar is fantastic, its all need based (since it is need-blind school) so you should be fine. i believe parents who make 60,000 or less a year wont be asked to make a contribution (i think the student would get a school job and the rest would be schlarships/grants stuff) If youre making around 90,000 or less, i think, based on some hypothetical situations posted on the site, you be paying around 10,000 or a bit more a year. (not sure how loans would affect this though.)

You should also look at one of the threads before this, the one about financial aid packages for the EDII students. Someone posted their package in a very detailed way and included around what income they were in. That should be helpful with how loans go into the equation.

Money should definately not be a concern if you apply to Vassar, and it sounds like your really on track for it =)
