So just wondering if anyone here knows the general aid amount given to someone with my situation. I got two parents and one student which is me, and my parents make $30000-40000 a year combined, I make nearly nothing maybe $5000 tops. Does anyone have this kind of situation? Anyone know about how much I would get from just filling out a FAFSA with this kind of situation?

I have a similar financial situation as yours and my estimated was about $18000. However my GPA dropped so I might lose about $4000.

Wow, so this level of income nearly gets you a free ride? That's always good to hear.
So I'm guessing the drop in aid is from one of the cal grants? That's the only thing from FAFSA that requires high GPA right?

I think is was the SMART grant. The 18k is all grants, I also did get some loans to cover the rest.

Ah never heard of that one, just read up on it and seems like I'm eligible as a transfer student.
So any chance you could list the grants you're getting? Sorry for all the questions.

Pell Grant
Cal Grant
SMART Grant
UCSD Grant

Odd. My family's total income for 2007 was ~$26,000 and we have 4 people, and my preliminary financial estimate says I'll be getting about $14,000.

What do you guys have for an EFC score? Mine is 80.

Jesus christ that's a low EFC. Did you get all the grants that furielrage got? I think after a certain point the EFC stops mattering, since there's a maximum to all these grants. My EFC for 2008-2009 was a bit over 2000 I think, but it'll be lower for 2009-2010 which is what I'm worried about.

Also I think if your family got any other kind of government aid, it'd take away from your financial aid from school.

It turns out the SMART grant requires US citizenship, meaning non-citizens could only get maybe $14000 total :(.

I figure that I have a low EFC because our income was only $26,000 for 4 people. The year before that our total income was $19,000. We don't get any government aids or any other outside financial help.

The preliminary fin aid estimate says I'm getting the Cal Grant, the Pell Grant, and the UCSD Grant. I meet all the requirements (that I know of) for the SMART grant, but I'm not receiving it. So in all I'm getting $14,251 in grants according to the preliminary estimate.

So you're a US citizen and are taking the specific science courses required for the SMART grant? I mean I'd call them up if you think you meet all the requirements, it does sound like you hit the maximum for those three grants.
