Yes I have been accepted into the OOS university and have registered for Spring 18 classes that start in couple weeks. I have yet to submit my FAFSA for the federal loans. The transfer was a late decision. I think I might have problem here (too late).
I do realize that once I apply for FAFSA, they will see that I’m dual enrolled in two colleges. Of course, I will only use the Federal Aid at the out of state university. Hence, only being allowed to matriculate at one college. Secondly, if I just agree to pay out of pocket at the CC, there shouldn’t be a problem. But how do I void my BOG fee waiver? Finally, the university might have rules about being dual enrolled and might not accept any more transfer credit after being admitted/ enrolled in their program. I’ll have to talk to my advisor and the university’s FA Dept. Thank you all for your feedback.
You seem to have some wishful thinking going on or you simply just want to hear what you want to hear.
this will be your undoing, that will lead for you to pay back both schools.
If you are currently enrolled in your California CC using a BOG waiver, then you cannot register for your OOS college without losing your BOG waiver. You will have to repay the state of California back this money.
As a matter of fact, if **you are no longer physically living in California, you are no longer a California resident and are no longer eligible for your BOG waiver.
If you are getting your BOG waiver once you register for classes your OOS state to go to school, next month your BOG waiver is no longer valid and you are fraudulently getting funds from the state of California, which they will make you repay
you can only be a matriculated student at one school at a time. Pick your poison; stay at the California CC college until the term is over. Defer your registration at the OOS school until this summer or Fall 2018.**
Find out from the financial aid office at the OOS school if you will be able to borrow your full amount for summer school. If the school financial aid office operates as a trailer, then you may be able to do this. This is the only way that you can do what you want.
You can take an online course at your current community college and pay for it out of pocket.
You can go to the new OOS school assuming you can pay for it.
You can submit your FAFSA to the OOS school any time during this term to get the federally funded loans…submitting it ONLY to the OOS school. But they won’t give you aid until you have enrolled as a student seeking a degree…
If you do NOT submit this new FAFSA to the old college, they won’t see it.
It sounds like you are amending a current FAFSA to submit to your new college. If so, you need to DELETE any other colleges on that form.
As noted by @sybbie719 do not try to be enrolled in both colleges concurrently towards a degree…this will definitely cause you issues.
I’m not sure why you would be continuing taking CC courses if you have decided to transfer to a four year university OOS. It’s very possible you are wasting your money…and the courses won’t transfer anyway.
Since the OOS school is expensive and all you qualify for in aid is the $12,500 loan, how are you going to pay the OOS costs for this school?
Where are you going to live?
How about researching all your options instate before you give up CA residency, and if you need to go OOS, can you live and work there for a year before attending school there, and would that give you instate tuition rates then?
For now, you need to withdraw from the classes at the OOS school.
And finish the one CC class in CA.
