So i’m not entirely sure how fafsa works so please bare with me.
I remember reading somewhere that the FAFSA application is due around Jan-March if you’re planning to attend a 4 year university. How would the process be with community college?
Would I still be able to apply for FAFSA or any other CA aid program around July-August?
Any information that may seem irrelevant but might help me would be extremely helpful.
Thank you!
For Calgrant, check with someone at your school’s FA office. I think you will use that once you attend 4 yr university.
Not sure what the procedure is.
Schools usually have priority deadlines for FAFSA, but you can still file it now. If you are eligible for Pell grant you can use that towards your CC costs.
You need to be careful since you want to graduate early. Did you graduate already?
You could be hurting yourself aid wise.
Did you do what’s needed to qualify for a Cal Grant or BOG waiver?
The 2017-2018 FAFSA will be available for submission in October 2016. It will use tax info from 2015.
Just get it done ASAP in October.
@mom2collegekids I’m going to find out if I’m able to graduate around July. Enrollment for my local CC is around August so I’m not entirely scared for that. I’m just scared about not being able to recieve any money whatsoever.
Also, what do I need to do to be eligible for such programs? I can’t apply yet bc I’m not certain my school will allow me until july.
Before you graduate, you need to make certain that you’re not doing something that make you ineligible for Cal Grants or BOG waivers (if your parents’ income qualifies).
There are usually deadlines to meet.
@ucbalumnus Can you chime in?
@mom2collegekids My parents income definitely qualifies bc my sister just finished graduating uni and she used cal grants. For the past semesters, I’ve been ranked 1 in my class. So if it’s grades, Im definitely trying my hardest. And it shouldn’t be a problem. Other than grades, what makes me ineligible?
For you to get a Cal Grant for this school year, I think your GC would have had to provide your high school grades by some earlier date (March??)
If that’s the case, then you shouldn’t graduate early.
@ucbalumnus do you know how this all works? this student has now decided to graduate high school early (I think graduate at the end of this summer). Since his GC would not have known to provide his GPA by the deadline, is he ineligible for a Cal Grant (or BOG waiver)?
