hey there.. i am a canadian citizen studying in a high school abroad (not in canada)
i am looking to go to the us for undergrad, but will need to find a source of financial aid..
at the same time, i am trying to stay away from loans as much as possible

are there any special financial aid programs for canadians studying in the US?
which us universities would be the best to apply to? (regarding need-based aid for canadian students)

I know Canadian kids who have gotten athletic money to all sorts of public and private schools.

I also know of Canadian kids who received need based aid to Brown, Princeton, Colgate etc.

It is possible, but depends on each school and as far as I know privates are the way to go. The caveat is that if you are not eligible for US state & federal aid you need a school who can make up that difference from their endowment. Those are the more prestigious school to which it is more difficult to gain admission.

Oh ok…
Athletic money as in recruited college sports players?
Also, would you happen to know any special grant/scholarship programs for Canadian (specifically Ontario) student?

This is what I’ve found so far:

From [Need-blind admission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Need-blind admission - Wikipedia)

“There are only seven colleges that are need-blind and full-need for all applicants, including international students. These are Dartmouth College, Harvard University, MIT, Princeton University, Williams College, Yale University, and Amherst College.”

Besides those schools, Columbia, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania provide need-blind admission for Canadians and Mexicans.

In addition, other schools like Stanford, Brown, etc meet the full financial need of any accepted student. The problem is that the admission policy is no need blind for internationals.

Anyone else wants to share?

wow, thanks
anyone else? :)

Ballin, I actually believe that you can receive aid from OSAP (Ontario Student Assistant Program, if you haven’t lived in Ont. for a while : ) or the Feds as the case may be in order to attend a U.S. school. I think, however, that it is less than you might find you need, and less than the amount you can borrow or be granted if you were attending in Canada. May be worth checking in to.

you can get 6K (in like special low-interest long term loan) i believe from OSAP
