Financial Aid for Grad School in England

I'm applying to IR programs in England (Oxford, Cambridge, LSE), and I've been looking into fin aid options as an international student. To be honest, I don't find the UK campus sites to be as comprehensive on certain things as the US counterparts, so I'm a little concerned about money.

I'd be interested in any one of those three if I get in, but I'm not sure how Americans tend to pay for British schools. Will the UK finance Americans, or would I be stuck with private loans back at home?

Does anyone know about how the Brits finance internationals, if at all?

I'm not sure about graduate school. But for undergraduate internationals (non-EU) are expected to finance their own education. I assume the same would be true for grad school. Albeit university is much cheaper in the UK than in the US.

Why do I find that hard to believe, when living costs are factored in and I'm charged more as an international... :-P

Well I meant without living costs. But depending where you are in the UK it can be less. In London you could easily be paying the equivalent of a US university.

Essentially they don't. Probably you will have to pay the full amount. Scholarships are limited and are usually school specific eg Rhodes scholars at Oxford. The best way of finding such scholarships is looking on the web-sites of individual universities. But in general the purpose of foreign students is to financially subsidise the 'home' (UK and EU) students, so it's highly likely you will have to pay the full cost yourself.

Well that sucks.

UCSD IR/PS, here I come...
