Is Smith generous in offering financial aid for international students?
I plan to apply ED but I'm so confused if they offer FA for international student who will apply ED like me??
Do you guys think the acceptance rate of ED will be higher more than RD?

The ED acceptance rate is always somewhat higher, but it is not that much higher.

Financial aid for international students is difficult. There is a smaller pool of aid available (because international students don’t qualify for U.S. federal student aid) and there is often greater need (some of our international students come from very impoverished situations in countries like Afghanistan, for example, and need a lot of financial aid).

For U.S. citizens, Smith pledges to give enough financial aid to meet 100% of each students demonstrated financial need. They don’t make the same pledge for international students. I think with international students the financial aid amounts really vary a lot depending on circumstances.

My advice would actually be to apply to Smith RD, so that you can also apply to a range of other schools that might be more affordable for you. That way when you get Smith’s response and their financial aid offer, you’ll be able to compare it to what other schools are offering and make a more informed choice.

I’m a first year international student, and they were very generous with my aid, though I applied RD. I didn’t apply ED for that very reason that there was no way to be sure with financial aid- I do know internationals who’ve applied ED and gotten all the aid they need, I also know people who applied ED and got less than they were hoping for. Aid for internationals can really vary- though on average I believe it’s more than the average for American students for the reason SmithieandProud said, I would play it safe and apply RD. It’s what I did and it really let me compare packages from different schools, which really helped- Smith was the most generous though, I have to say.
If you have any other questions about being an international student at Smith, I’d be more than happy to answer them as well!
