Financial aid for international students

Hey, I have a few questions regarding the FA for international students:

  1. Is it only merit-based?
  2. Is it enough for a low-income family (Less than 35,000$) to be able to afford it?
  3. Can you get grants or loans too?
  4. Is it renewable for 4 years?

I appreciate any help, my family isn’t wealthy,so I’m trying to find the best fits which also offer generous FA. If it helps, my stats are: 1440 on the SAT(700R/740M); 740 in Math-1 and 690 in Chem.

Hoping someone will clarify…but it doesn’t sound like RPI gives aid to international students unless they are RPI medal winners.

Maybe I’m reading this wrong…?

According to RPI’s financial aid website these are the groups that qualify for aid:

  • New students who are US citizens, or residents of the US who would qualify for US federal student aid programs
  • New students from Canada
  • Transfer students who are US Citizens, federal aid “eligible non-citizens,” or from Canada

So, pretty much only American and Canadian citizens qualify for merit or financial aid from RPI. Other than that, international students (not including Canadians) are considered for a small selection of merit scholarships, but most pay full price and get no help.

For those that do get aid and scholarships, they are renewable for 8 semesters and there are no renewal requirements as long as you maintain a 2.0 GPA (aka passing).
