Financial Aid for International Students

Well, I'm having second thoughts about EDing. :(
About the SATIIs, anything above 750 should be considered the same. I wish I had given world history though, all my subjects are sciences.

Now you're the one with second thoughts? :D

Why are you changing your mind about applying ED II to Swarthmore? Another thing I don't like about applying ED II is that I already sent my application materials and tests scores to other colleges (in my case, to 15). After all the hard work and essay writing, I'd like to see if I get accepted into those colleges!

I'm finding the academics at Swarthmore just too rigorous. The lazy me:D
I havent yet sent out my app materials. I'm still waiting for a reco from the place where I'm currently volunteering. Hope I'm not too late.:(

Where did you hear that about Swarthmore? From its thread on CC ?

I read something there about an excessively demanding workload... I hate this part about being an international. We have never visited a college campus and thus have to rely completely on subjective information, like what other people say or what's written on a college's web site. Anyway, I'll definitely be glad to be accepted at any college.

Do you have a favorite college or university ?

I did read that on the swarthmore forum. However, I'm still thinking of EDing there. Hope I stick to this to the moment when I send in my apps:)

I dont have any such favorites, the reason being the reason u mentioned.

I am completely irrational when I say my favorite is Williams. Why is it my favorite? I don't know, it's just a feeling. Something about rankings maybe? Who knows, I don't think so, maybe it's the web page I like. Really, there's no reason why i should prefer Williams or any other college for that matter.

I guess when I get my admittance/rejection letters I'll really have a favorite :P

Colby seems very attractive too... (don't all of them?). It's too bad they offer very limited financial aid for us.

How are you doing with your essays?

Bowdoin is a bit scanty but they take you if they like you. I am doing ED no doubts :p

I'm sick right now. Bad cold with fever and headaches. If I sit in front of my computer for more than 15 mins, I get the most awful headache. Just cant work on my essays. I just hope I can make them presentable.:(

I too am really attracted to willams, and colby as well. But I wanted to apply ED2 and I thought Swarthmore would be the best option. The physics program at Swarthmore is really good.

ajayc, do you have a particular reason to prefer bowdoin? I'd apply ED II to a college that offers more financial aid...

too bad you're sick skunk, you've still got a week to finish your essays for the colleges that have Jan 1 deadline though. I'm missing three essays to finish by Jan 1, so I'm on schedule.

Happy Holidays!

ajayc, I read somewhere that Kalamazoo rejected you on financial grounds. How much did they want?

They didnt really reject me. They are saying that loved my application and will be willing to admit me if I can throw in a bit of more moolah.

daniel: I'd apply EDII to a place that I love rather than look at the money.

Of course I'd rather apply to a place I love, but what's the purpose of doing so if I can't afford the college? Anyway, I hope you do get the financial aid you need.

If you don't mind me asking, why is Bowdoin your favorite? As you can read from my previous posts I find it impossible to have my own favorite college. Why did you choose Bowdoin?

I was considering applying to Kzoo in the regular pool. Hope they dish out enough aid for me.:D I'm going to apply there if Dickinson rejects or defers my EA app.
I love your idea ajayc, but what is the use of applying there if they dont dish out enough dough so that you can study there. I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

I just completed the draft of my commonapp essay.
DAMN my bloody essays. With these essays, I'm afraid that I'm not gonna get into any college in my wishlist. Some friends who read my essay gave the same evaluation. I am sooooooooo frustated.

I don't think they can be that bad!
Let's exchange essays, only one person has read mine, and I'd like to know where I stand in comparison to the rest of the applicants.
Mine's about how I've helped a poor rural community outside Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital. I like it, but I've never read any other application essay...

I dont think my essay's so bad in what it's trying to say. but it needs so much work. my procastination has caught me at last.
well, let's do that but let me work some more on it first. then i'll pm mine to you.

i'm done with all my essays, i still need to revise them, specially the Amherst one which I think I'll rewrite completely.

I hate that Middlebury's essay must be sent via physical mail, instead of via Common App like all the other colleges.

PM me when you're done. Did you finally go for Swarthmore's ED II ?
