Financial Aid for International!

Hey all!

I applied to Lafayette for RD as well, and i really love the college and its program. My only concern is the finances for my education in US as an international. I applied for financial aid. How generous is Lafayette in providing aid to international students? That's my biggest concern now - finances.

Basically my parents have a yearly income of US$50k a year. and my mom is retiring in 2 years (she's 56yrs old) and my dad is a retiree doing his own business (65years old). I can post up other details if needed like my statistics, my essays and other things if needed. I just need some suggestions or assurance from you all regarding this. because i really hope to be able to be there at Lafayette this fall for college.

Good luck to all of you. =D

Hey

I’ve been accepted RD, so I obviously don’t know a whole lot but this is what it says for international aid on the website:

"International Students
About 6 percent of each incoming class is comprised of international students (non-U.S. citizens who are not permanent residents). All international aid applicants must complete the finanical aid application by Jan 1. Lafayette recommends students submit the CSS Profile online as the preferred finanical aid application but will accept the ISFAA (International Student Finanical Aid Application) too. Lafayette meets the full demonstrated financial need of international students through a combination of loan, job, and grant aid. The awarding of aid is extremely competitive, and the need for such aid may affect the admissions decision. "

Also, this is a statement from hudsonvalley51 on another post discussing this same topic:
"This is what Lafayette has to say about international applicants and financial aid:

"Is admission need-blind for foreign students?

No. However, if accepted, the College will meet your demonstrated need, up to and including, full tuition, room and board, books, and supplies."

So, your financial needs will be taken under advisement when your application is considered. I guess it will all come down to how you stack up against the other internationals who are applying who are also seeking a considerable amount of aid. Lafayette does like to admit a diverse international class so if you are from a country that rarely, if ever, sends students to the college you might stand a better chance than someone with an equally strong application from a country that is already well represented."

Good luck to you as well! I hope to see you next year :)
