<p>Are there any OOSer's with personal/anecdotal experience? I wouldn't think that this sort of data would be publicly available (especially if it's really bad)...</p>
<p>From what I've seen, the OOS tuition (~$20,000) isn't as high as many others (michigan comes to mind), but does that mean that their financial aid isn't as good then?</p>
<p>Is it too much to think that a UNC financial aid package (OOS) would be competitive with one from a private school???</p>

<p>What actually matters about financial aid is the net cost of attendance (what it would actually cost you to go there) — tuition/fees/etc. minus aid received. </p>
<p>Using this metric, UNC-Chapel Hill extremely competitive with private institutions. A private college might offer more grant aid, but if it would still cost you $8,000 more a year to go there, then it’s financial aid package is not actually better.</p>
<p>Cost should never discourage you from applying to UNC – it is need-blind and has some of the most extensive aid programs (both need-based and merit-based) in the nation.</p>
