I am applying RD. I just got a mail from Stanford asking for missing financial aid documents:

March 22

"We are reviewing applications for financial assistance for the 2007-2008 academic year that have been submitted to this office. In order to complete our analysis of the application that you submitted, we must have additional information and clarification as requested below"

does it suggest anything? I even called the financial aid office because I had a question about a special circumstance. they told me to email or fax an explanation to them. I even asked shall I wait until the decisions go out, but the lady suggested that I send it now so they have it on hand in case they have to make a decision.

I never called the financial office before, so does this suggest anything or just normal procedure?

I would guess that this means that you're in...But, it's just a guess, and I'm sure a hundred people are going to sign on and tell you not to get your hopes up and I would agree with that.

this really sucks b/c I havent sent my tax returns yet and none of my schools have notified me of anything. I guess I'm rejected to most of my top schools...

it might not mean that. the letter is postmarked march 22nd. I live in LA, so it only took 2-3 days. If you live further it will take longer to reach you. so it might not mean you're not getting one. But please keep me up to date on your status. thanks

plus you can always call the financial aid office. you should sent it now.

extravaganza, I'm completely in the same boat. My family takes forever for tax reports since we own a business and so far, a lot of schools like UC Berk. are roaring for me to send it in. All except Stanford =(. I've lost a lot of hope.

What's wierd is that I just got accepted by Vanderbilt and in the package was my Financial Aid Award letter and they listed out all the aid they were giving me, but I have yet to send in a tax return to them, which I will send prioity mail tomorrow to IDOC, but I'm almost tempted to just wait till decisions come out and just send my stuff to the schools that admit me.

just wondering, does Stanford's financial aid office review every application for aid? or just ones that gets admitted/likely? and does the term "reviewing" implies actually coming up with an estimate or just checking for completion

ps. somehow, i don't expect these questions to be definitely answered here, but I just have been thinking about these questions for the entire day and feel like I can use some additional opinions

Yes, they review every app. I had this question last year, and right up until the last few days of admittance, they were still completing financial aid apps. They can't treat them differently.

I had exactly the same experience as Kamikazewave with MIT. I doubt you can conclude anything from financial aid documents (and decisions are very close anyway, why bother second-guessing?).
