Financial Aid information 2017?

My son just received his acceptance letter today - has anyone heard about financial aid?

The school has said (on Tumblr) that they will send financial aid info about 5 days after sending decisions.

Hey, My son was accepted too and waiting for financial aid package. I didn’t attend college in US so I am asking how the financial aid works for kid’s college. I know usually the first year scholarship can be renewed if the student keeps a decent GPA. I am asking if it is easy for students to get more scholarship when they are in sophomore year and beyond? I know they can work as intern in summer etc. Can anyone having older kid explain this to me? thanks,

@xiaosp

Any merit scholarships awarded by UR are renewable for 4 years, unless the student fails to meet the terms required to keep the scholarship (GPA, full time continuous enrollment status).

There aren’t any school-sponsored additional merit scholarships available for upperclassmen. Depending on what field of study your son will pursue, there may be a few small ont time only scholarships/fellowships available through his major department. These are for small amounts ($500 to $1000) and are intended to pay for travel to academic conferences or help support a summer research internship.

Need-based aid will be recalculated and re-awarded each year.

I just received an email to check My ROC and there was a Merit Scholarship for 14k - doesn’t say much more than that so no idea if it’s annual or one-time. The email also says if need-based aid is applicable, it will appear in the financial aid package. So everyone check your inbox!

@QueenJackie It will be renewable and you should get an overview via email in a few days.

Thanks - so strange how the information comes in bits & pieces instead of all at once!

Family friend received their financial package today via email early morning.

Thank you - today we did, too (nothing - oh well!)

DS decided it’s too steep of a debt to take on for undergrad, so it’s now off our list.

@@@QUESTION

Is one’s need based fa released only when one accepts the offer for admission and make a deposit?

I did receive my merit notification last week but haven’t heard anything about my need based FA… :frowning:

We received an email with FA on Monday, about a week after receiving the email regarding merit notification.
