LaVie - be sure to let the admissions office know how much your daughter wants to come to Emory, maybe that will help her get off the waitlist, obviously there are a lot of kids that will not be attending due to major lack of aid this year.

Bamboo - i think you hit the nail on the head!

So wait, if it says 5500 in loan, do I have to burrow that money? I don’t get all this financial aid business. What’s a Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan anyway?

I was admitted. They just figured out that they actually had all of my materials today, so now that I think about it, of course my aid package wouldn’t be ready yet!

im also getting th “inquiry access denied.” whats weird is my decision letter is still unavailable and i know i got in cuz the decision came in my email and there is a link to pay the deposit…any ideas?

I fully encourage people to ask about/negotiate financial aid, especially if a comparable school has offered a better package. I have had success with this in the past because of the way the fafsa makes it seem like my family has money. If you want to go to Emory, don’t let the offer they have made for aid stand in the way. Worst case scenario they don’t increase the aid. You don’t know if you don’t try.

Emory offers me about $19000 including $2000 work study and $5500 loan. NU offers me about $23000 including about $6500 total in loan and work study. So Emory does not look attractive at all.

Yes, your parents should call and ask to talk to your financial aid adviser. If you have better offers, ask Emory to meet them (and, of course, express your desire to attend Emory).
Also, if Emory is your top choice, you should appeal your aid award to one of the people overseeing financial aid. They tend to understand more about what families can actually afford.

my efc is prob around 2000 and after loans and grants and workstudy i still have to pay 14000 about.

i think m going to take the offer. lol, we’re poor but not really as ppor as we claim. my parents just wanted tuiton to be covered, so about 36,000+ in total FA, thats about tuition, which is 37,000.

i ono, considering i havent really gotten better offers, and even if i do, atlanta is prob a lot cheaper than say boston MA. and id ont want to go to canada or hk. ugh lame.

so yeah, i’m pretty darn happy. its bad econ times nayway

next yr i thikn i’ll shoot for some merit aid or sth, missed deadline this yr, darn. haha~ :)
