Emory COA???

I got my Emory FA package today...

It was very generous, I was just curious.

Federal Work-Study = $2,000.00
Federal Sub Stafford Loan = $2,938.00
Federal Unsub Stafford Loan = $2,562.00
Emory College Grant = $39,755.00
Fall 2009 - Spring 2010 Totals = $47,255.00

I thought the COA was typically 52K?
Does anyone know for sure?

So am I just going to acquire $5,500 in loans a year and nothing else?

Thank you for all your help!

cost of attendence is 52k. so you’re getting 5,500 in loans and 3k out of your pocket.

Are you sure?
It didn’t mention anything in the report about an out of pocket cost…
And I don’t have $3k to pay, where would I get that?

there’s a cost of attendance link right under the financial aid award.

The cost of attendance includes things like travel expenses, personal allowances, and an over-estimated cost of books ([Financial Aid - Emory College - Cost of Attendance](http://www.emory.edu/FINANCIAL_AID/undergraduates/emory-college/cost-of-attendance.php)) so the actual cost - the amount you pay Emory - is less. It total something like 48,800 or so.

Okay, I thought maybe they were using a lower coast of living or something???

Temay - using your numbers…

$52,132 COA - $47,255 aid = $4,877 (your EFC)

ha ha

I’m just wonder if that is correct because it doesn’t say anything about paying anything other than the loans…

Once again, your bill from Emory will not include things like books, travel, and personal expenses. These things account for the discrepancy between your aid an the ESTIMATED COA.

amandani, thank you very much. So what you’re saying is that everything is taken care of and all i need to worry about is the loans?

Probably. You’ll have to wait until the official bill shows up some time in the late Summer. There might be some money you’ll have to pay but it likely won’t be much (certainly not 5,000).

yea! Thank you I was getting worried…

Is anyone else in a similar situation???

I have like the EXACT same numbers.

And yes, it only says totaly AID: 46 or 47k.

Like people have been saying, there are some unnecessary/exaggerated costs that the 52k COA doesn’t account for.

We actually did get good FA packages, don’t worry about it!

^ are you talking about Oxford or Emory? because Emory costs is $ 52000 but Oxford is less about $ 47000…

Emory COA

Tuition = 38,036
Room & board = $10,896
Books 1,100
Insurance 2,000

Personal 2,000 (travel, clothes, entertainment, extra food, pharmacy, etc)

Total COA $54,032

If you go to the financial board on CC, you’ll see over and over where people don’t budget all the expenses and then they can’t figure out how to pay once they get to school.

hey Temay-
you said you got ur FA yesterday? when did u get all ur FA docs in? i got mine in late && i’m not sure if they’ll have my FA ready by may 1st! :(

Actually, it’s a reasonable average. For an English major, yes, the estimate is high (paperback Lit books are available on amazon). But, for a budding scientist, the estimate is low since those science tests are expensive.

btw: unless you receive a true full ride somewhere, Finaid never covers personal expenses, which are expected to be paid out of summer earnings.

mavsgirl41, they got all of my information on the 20th of March…

So just about 2 weeks…

You should know soon…

I think i’m going to just call Emory’s FA office and ask them.

thanks! it should be that long then, but i’m just worried about them not finishing in time. but it is my fault for being late.
i called and the lady was like uhh i can’t really say. but they’ll try. i think that means “yes” but i don’t want to give any garuntees? :D

Are their need-based aids going to stay about the same for all four years if my family’s FAFSA stays the same?? I got offered about 48k in grants and 2k in work study. so excited!!!
