Financial aid is up for continuing students

Very close to last years so that is a relief

check out oasis

Excellent! Thanks for the update. I'm very satisfied :)

yeah i just looked at it today. 7500 dollars.. of... loans. ... gahh. well i can't miss the 38K of grants either. I'm going to kick down the loans with scholarships. >W<

Does the amount of aid change if you decide you want to live in housing not owned by USC?

Hey guys, when I transfer my cal grant to USC will my loans go away first? & is it safe to assume that I'll get the full 9k amount if my loans are also around that area?

I'm an incoming freshman at USC, but I'm just wondering if most people got around the same financial aid package that they got for previous years.

^uyulove, I was planning on doing the same thing with my loans last year but what they actually do is they will reduce your grant the total amount of your scholarships, it really makes outside scholarships pointless.

As usual, this year's award very similar to last year's. The delta between years <$1000 and reflective of a slight change in our family's finances. This is my sixth annual cycle with USC FA.

busiman- no i did it last year, they first take away your loans. Then your workstudy. THEN your grants. Or least that's what they told me and actually ended up doing. i got rid of my subsidized stafford (or the other one i don't remember) loan last year because of my scholarship.

^wow, I'm going to call them then because last year they just took the money from my grant (after workstudy), so I didn't see any of my scholarship money.

my son's cal grant was deducted from his university grant. loans remained the same sadly.

Oh that's weird. they always told me they would take away my loans first.. maybe that's because my EFC is like 3K at the most. (therefore the 38K grant..)

Son had a late scholarship award that was posted after his first aid package was out. In the second aid package some loan was reduced but so was some grant. I can't complain his EFC is 13K and I pay 11K to keep him there and he only has 5K sub stafford loans after two years.

Wow. our EFC is $8K, but I guess CSS pushed it up so my son got $8500 in loans for one year, plus work study, with a contribution of $15,000 from us. After three years, his loans will be around $20K. We have no idea how we will afford his senior year. :-(
Should have had drizzit fill out our paperwork, I guess... ;-)

Yeah they always push up your EFC. My parent's EFC was like 3K my freshman year but it turned out closer to 5-6K ish?

I live in Montana LOL property here is cheap. A 1400 sq ft house with a full basement and a corner lot cost me 124K 10 years ago and now appraises at about 160K.

I just don't have a lot of assets like stock or non-retirement savings outside of my income. Those are what can kill you with the CSS profile and pushes up your EFC.

Wait... so is ALL of the financial aid eligibility posted for all students? For some reason, mine doesn't look complete yet in the sense that I wasn't eligible for a Stafford loan this year, even though my EFC was similar.

Seeing that some areas of my 2008-2009 Financial Aid Eligibility have not been filled yet (such as the "Your Estimated USC Cost of Attendance is Based on" section), as well as the fact that my Financial Aid Document Status states that my Financial Aid Eligibility is "Being Reviewed," I hope that my "incomplete" financial aid status is just that, and that Financial Aid is just releasing eligibility in waves. I was wondering if anyone else could check those sections to see if they are the same or different as mine. Thanks in advance!

Mine says "completed" and everything has been up for a while now.

OK. Thanks, busiman!

I suppose I'll wait a little, and then call Financial Aid if the status doesn't change within the next week. Hopefully, everything works out.
