Financial Aid Late!!

How bad is it if I turn in FAFSA and the CSS Profile 4-5 days late? Somehow I thought they all were due at the end of February when a lot of them are due February 1st. I know Stanford is okay with turning them in late as long as it's not too close to March but what about Ivies? Oh gosh...it'll kill me if I get into my HYP but not be able to afford it. Anybody have the know the answers?

You are almost certainly okay, but I can't say specifically about ivies. I can't think of any reason why they would be different.

u wont get ur fin. package by April 1st(or april ist week)

U might get it in late april or even after that

But I'll still receive financial aid, right? I come from a really low income family so this is huge...which makes me feel like even more of a retard for losing track of things. Oh man...

Turning it in a few days late isn't going to be that big a deal.

Make sure you apply for the PIN's early. Both you and your parents have to have separate PIN's. They take a day or two to get and so you don't want to be held up there. Have the Profile sent right away.

Man I really feel for you. Just in case call every college you applied to and tell them your situation. Better safe than sorry. Just don't tell them your name or anything.

Don't worry, after the FA office gets the info, it takes them about 10 minutes to decide what your fin aid package is going to be. The only problem people can have is if the info doesn't arrive in time so that they can tell you their FA package offer during April. The colleges tell you their decision by April 1 and you tell the colleges your decision by May 1.

Call the colleges tomorrow if you want. The FA office is separate from the admissions office. If you need some phone #'s, tell me and I get them from the PR guide.

Same here. If you need help finding tel #s, hit me up. I'm low income too, so I know what you mean.

I sent in my CSS Profile the day after it was due, on Feb. 2. I then emailed Northwestern U's finaid office to ask if that is okay because I was told by four people to do that. I did mention my name, but I can't imagine they would run over to the AdmOffice to say, "Don't admit her!" My mother has sent in her taxes and I think she did mine already. Once we get them back in a week or two, maybe three, I hope not, I make the corrections online for the FAFSA, and then save and resubmit or whatever. Then with the CSS Profile, I print off the summary thing and highlite the ones that I corrected and send it to my colleges. And then put my name and soc. sec. number on copies of my tax stuff as well as my mom's tax stuff and send those to the colleges. Is this all correct?

Also, the Noncustodial Parent form, what if you have no way of getting it filled out properly because your noncustodial parent is well, unable to fill it out properly and send it back in a timely fashion. There are other factors but I'm not going to get detailed. And also, if they do make me get it filled out, does it cost extra to send the online one from Profile? Like an extra $18?

Thanks for the help guys. I talked to my counselor and she told me that all colleges set a deadline for financial aid just to get all of our information in as quickly as possible, but it isn't do or die if it's not in on time. She said I should only start worrying if I haven't turned it gets really close to March. I hope she's right. I sent in CSS on the 4th and I'm turning in FAFSA tomorrow after my mom gets her PIN. But anyway, thanks again for your reassurance and support! I still feel a little uneasy but I do feel better thanks to you guys.
