FINANCIAL AID letter

Does anyone know if the total tuition ($57,890) includes meal plans?

hey, i’m having the same problem (can’t find my aid letter). they might have just not given me any money (!!!), but i’m really hoping it’s a glitch of some kind. i was just on the admitted students chat and apparently at least one other person was having the same issue. i’m waiting until the mail comes on monday, and if i don’t get anything on paper i’m calling the finaid office to see what’s up.

@williams000, me as well. can’t find any aid letter anywhere. your plan sounds good!

I think that figure includes room and board, and that’s still an increase of about 4k from this last year.

I got no loans and a federal work study (and the whole 1980 from me 1900 from my mom over the summer). So how does the actual process of me contributing money work? Anyone experienced with the work study program and contributions from summer earnings?

search around from the website, those who can’t find the letter! there might be a tab on the left side

@kitkatkatie
Work study is you have to go find the job, and you can only make how much the specify each quarter. I’m not sure what you do once you reach that limit, though. You can only make that much because the money goes from the federal gov’t –> UChicago –> you. However, the money is paid directly to you. You can use it however you want (books, personal expenses, travel) and/or towards your tuition, room/board, or fees (if/when your parents have paid their contribution).

My financial aid letter appeared in a yellow banner at the top of the page . . .

Did everyone find their Financial Aid letter on their website? I did not.

Yes. It first appeared as a yellow banner on the top of the page once the admission letter was exited out from. And now it’s on the sidebar of the Account Homepage, right under the admission letter, I believe.

Are you RD or EA acceptance?

I was accepted EA and my letter showed up on my log in page a few days ago.

Accepted EA

I was also accepted EA.

accepted EA

reading this made things a bit clearer

about how much did you guys get?
anyone else get royally effed?

^i don’t think i got anything. they just recommended some federal loans and factored in work-study. i’m not sure if i’ll have the money to afford chicago at this rate.

@collegesgirl, I’m RD.

Yeah, I got a $2,000 grant, and they recommended federal loans. I was so upset when I saw that. How can they charge so much and not even offer much aid? :frowning: It seems like the best aid they’ve even offered is a $10,000 scholarship, which means the school would STILL cost around $40-50,000/year. That is just ridiculous.

Isn’t that how it is at most schools that base aid on need? It seems like it would be even worse at some of Chicago’s peer schools as they often do not offer any merit aid at all.

$2,000? That’s roughhhhh
