What is Michigan's deal with financial aid? Do they meet 100% represented need? And are they known to give out good merit scholarships etc.?

If you went to the Michigan website you would find quite adequate and sometimes extensive answers to the extremely basic questions you ask.

Not known for merit scholarships at all, unless you have a 35(+) ACT and a 4.0. Things have probably changed now, but two years ago, the only people at my high school who received any 'merit' scholarships were URMs. And by URM, I mean that they were 1/4 Native American or 1/8 Mexican and living in a well-off 99% white community. And Michigan gave them full-tuition scholarships.

As for actual financial need, I don't think they are the best with that either. A couple of my housemates definitely have financial need, but they didn't receive much and are taking on big bucks in loans to pay tuition, housing, etc.

Michigan does not meed 100% of need. They tend to do better with aid for in state as opposed to out of state students. It's a very large school, so meeting 100% of need for everybody is impossible.

Michigan does give out many merit scholarships - around several hundred every year, in differing amounts up to full tuition, room and board. To receive them you need good numbers and more.

Aw guys, since logogirl is smart enough to apply to Yale, I figured she'd be at least sharp enough to got to the website for these questions. Of course, it's just a safety, so I guess it doesn't merit the effort.

I looked at your stats and they are excellent. Even so, I think you would be a long shot for merit money at UM.

i bit too, long shot for money at u-m beyond the $1500 Regents Scholarship.

Wow...entomom, don't you think you are being a little harsh. I did go to the Michigan website and did do as much researching as I could. The reason people post and ask questions on this site is to possibly find out other information aside from that which the actual school provides. I was fully aware of all the scholarships they had available, but I was looking to receive responses from people who had first hand experience with Michigan and there process regarding finances. I'm sorry that attempting to embarrass people makes you feel good.

And you couldn't find out if Michigan gave 100% of need on the website? Or if they were know to give out good merit scholarships? You didn't see the information about numbers of LSA and Shipman scholarships? You didn't do a search on this forum to look at the many posts on merit scholarships?

If I was being too harsh, then you shouldn't be embarrased.
