Upgrade your UT EID:

So I will not get any financial aid if I don’t upgrade? I thout we could in the orientation during summer.

You have to file FAFSA first, and you cannot do it before January. UT financial packages are usually ready by the end of March. Last year it was right after spring break, I believe.

Is financial aid as good for out-of-state students? I’m so worried about this! I really cannot afford $50,000+

No, it is not good for OOS students.

This is probably your only hope.

And don’t forget to apply to financial safeties in your own state. Miracles happen, but very seldom.

VERY FEW OOS tuition waivers are given. You don’t get one at UT-Austin just because you get a $1,000 scholarship. I believe they may be easier to get at other Texas schools.

I didn’t apply for any scholarships at UT, and the deadline passed. I feel like an idiot.

Is there anything I could still do?

I wish I had a EFC of 0
My EFC was 7k but there’s no way I’m gonna get a lot of aid and I wasn’t eligible for pell grants. I don’t know how I’m going to afford UT. And I won’t get my financial aid package until the end of July because my parents had to submit an amended tax return and I was selected for verification :’( I’m so jealous of everyone lol

Why don’t you go to community college or some other university, that your parents can afford, to take general education requirements and transfer to UT later?

If you major is CS or engineering you can start looking for paid summer jobs and internships your freshmen year. Then you can earn enough money to pay for your education yourself.

Though sometimes people in other majors get very creative too. This guy from UT is paying his tuition selling songs [Paint - YouTube](Paint - YouTube)

I’m extremely jealous with the packages most of you have gotten.

I’m a Texas resident with a EFC of 0 and will have to take out about 15k in loans. Time to rely on outside scholarships.
