My daughter just got accepted to FIT. She got an e-mail stating that she should log in to their PAWS website and that "You can check on the status of your application for admission and your financial aid account. If admitted to the university and confirming attendance, you can pay required deposits and tuition payments online." She logged on and saw that she was admitted, but we didn't find anything about any of the other items, including financial aid. The only "student account information" was to check the financial aid and balance due for the spring term, but she was admitted for fall. Does this mean she didn't get any scholarship offer, or will that come at a later date? She just got this today, and not by mail.

Alex23, my son was also accepted to FIT and it is his first choice. Apparently, the PAWS is not ready for students entering Fall 2013. TRACKS should be available which is where you can go to see your application status but not much more information is available. You should be receiving an acceptance letter in the mail but my son’s letter did not indicate any scholarship offer despite the net price calculator on the FIT website indicating that he would be available for aid. We sent several e-mails to his admissions counselor and the admissions office but did not recieve any response. Finally, we sent an email to the Director of Admissions and he responded with how much my son would receive as a merit grant. A few weeks later we received a letter also indicating what the award would be. My suggestion is to email the admissions director. Also, it is my understanding that once you submit the FAFSA after January 1, you will receive a complete financial aid package with grants and loan possibilities. Congratulations on your daughter’s acceptance.

Thanks. That’s really helpful. FIT is probably my daughter’s second choice after UF, but UF is a reach for her. She’s gotten into UCF and has applied to USF, so the financial aid would make a big difference. I knew she was qualified to get a scholarship of some sort for Girl Scout Gold Award, so I knew it wasn’t nothing, so it seemed strange there was nothing listed. I have come to the conclusion, though, that small schools are flaky (We’ve also been dealing with Eckerd, and they seem to have one person working there). Thanks a lot! Have you visited the school yet?

The Girl Scout Gold award will give you about $13.5K and if you are a Florida resident you will be eligible for other state aid not to mention the other scholarship money that should be available. I highly suggest you schedule a visit to the school for the tour and be sure to schedule a visit with your admissions officer. Not only does it provide you another $1000 per year visit-grant but the information obtained is very informative. We did this last August and the interview with the admissions officer is very laid back and gives you a chance to ask all your questions. You can also schedule some time with the financial aid office. My son will be an engineering student and is looking for a program with smaller classes and good co-op program and FIT seems perfect for him.

Thanks. Actually, she just got her letter today with a scholarship. It just said “merit” so I don’t know whether that includes the Gold Award (because she put on her application that she was still completing that), but it’s enough that, between that, Bright Futures, FRAG, Florida prepaid, and another amount equal to state tuition that she gets because she has a learning disability, it will be almost full tuition. So she is very happy. We’re just waiting to hear from UF, which would be hard to say no to (especially as her first interest is agriculture, which no one else in Florida has), but she really did like this school. We haven’t visited officially, but she has a friend who goes there, and when we went to see UCF (which my daughter hated), she stopped and visited him, and that’s really what decided her to apply to FIT, because it seemed so nice and small and welcoming, especially compared to UCF. But we’ll definitely do a visit and it seems pretty likely she’ll go there, particularly because I am not counting on UF.
