Financial Aid office closes on the 17th?! WHAT?

I really need to go to the financial aid office to discuss something about loans, but I'm going to land in California on the 17th in the evening. According to this site, it says that "On Wednesday, August 17, we will be closing at noon."

Is this for good? Or just for the day? They should be open during the next few days, right? I mean, move-in is that weekend and other people aside from me will want to ask them questions too. Or are they trying to avoid that rush by closing until September or something?

^I think it’s just for that day.

that page lists the hours for August 1 through August 18, with a special note about August 17th. I interpret that to mean they will be open normal hours the following morning, the 18th, which is the beginning of Fall semester. The 17th is the end of summer, according to the calendar, and the service hours message covers the remainder of summer (right now), but should be updated next week to reflect the new semester.

How could anyone believe that the financial aid office would permanently close? I’m cracking up at this thread, haha.

el…oh…el…

I guess there won’t be any more financial aid now…

i’m not sure that FA is open on the 18th

i DO, however, know that FA will be open from 10am-3pm on the 19th

Haha Silenthillnight, I guess I overreacted there…that’d be pretty crazy.
Singh2010…THAT WOULD SUCK. Seeing I’m out-of-state. Not that I’m getting much in the first place. Thus, loans.

Diivio, mjmay7, and rider730, thank you for actually giving me helpful responses. Just what I needed!

Every year I see incoming students whipped into a frenzy by slow financial aid disbursement, confusing information, and worry about looming deadlines. It all seems to work out, even for the extremely small minority who actually hit a problem or are blocked, as they do get it straightened out. What we don’t see are people marched out of school, unable to take classes or stranded. It is messy and frustrating and one of the downsides of any huge university - bureaucracy - but these are minor annoyances that are outweighed by all the resources, advantages and opportunities.
