Probably already finished

Even for NYUAD applicants? :/

this is so heartbreaking
I have no change & its less than a week away.

Me too.

It sucks because I put so much effort into it. Two visits, the supplements, the essay, emails, studying like crazy.

I know life goes on but it makes me feel like I failed. Ah well.

Hey guys,

Not to get caught up in this hype, but I did find at least two people who said they got rejected even though their FinAid message changed before-hand.

Here’s one instance:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1356809-nyu-ed1-class-2017-discussion-thread-70.html#post15205136

This other user (dwarnock95) reported in this thread that their award info changed:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1356809-nyu-ed1-class-2017-discussion-thread-44.html#post15161476

And later reported a rejection here:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1356809-nyu-ed1-class-2017-discussion-thread-68.html#post15204066

I would be more skeptical about this as an indicator, and this is coming from someone whose award message has changed. That’s not to say it isn’t a sign of something, but I would just wait until we all find out. It’s only a few more days.

Dwarnock’s never changed to 2014-said it showed 2012/2013. The other person never stated what it changed to–a bit vague. Looked at that person’s stats and was accepted at Emerson and Pace, deferred Michigan. Not super impressive stats. Probably was a reach. Maybe also changed to 2012 2013 not 2014.

The 2014 change looks good but of course nothing is guaranteed.

So now we need someone whose FA did not change and was accepted.

Those two cases may be true that they got rejected, but they may have lied about their financial aid changing…

@thebigcw

I would not consider merrhh a pure case because merrhh seemed to have website glitches, what with the tisch and lsp checkbox problem that was mentioned in another thread.

dwarnock95 seemed to be experiencing other glitches, applying for the class of 2017 and getting “award access not available” for BOTH 2012 and 2013 rather than the correct 2014.

Let’s stay tuned, though. There are still threads up from previous years that have likely covered this as well. Pure exceptions that disprove the award change = acceptance theory might still be around.

Mine said 2014 award not available. I hope this “theory” is correct! At the very least, it will alleviate a little stress for the people who experienced the change already. Thanks for taking the time to conduct some research, ccuser222 and thebigcw!

Guys, I think not all financial aid has been processed for all applicants. That explains the discrepancy of some not receiving change and others having a changes status. The change on FA status for Albert will be gradual. I did some digging it was clear that some people got changes earlier then others. And on that note, on this thread, only 3 people have seen the change. There is hope

The point isn’t how gradually it changes, nor if it has been fully processed. The question lies in who exactly it is changing for - accepted applicants, rejected applicants or both. There seems to be no solid proof as to what this could correlate, but judging by the frequency of accepted students with the message, and rejected ones without it/with glitches, it seems like the message can be assumed to be a good sign, but not definite one.

If someone is bored they can analyze quality of those with the change vs those who did not get the change-SATs/Acts, gpa, aps.

I only find the usual - messaged applicants were accepted, non-messaged rejected. There should be some exceptions, but I don’t know. I couldn’t find many from the ED1 form talking about it…

I am starting to think the message is irrelevant.

Oh well, only 6 days. Does anyone know what time decisions come out?

I seem to be finding more and more applicants who did not have this message and ended up getting rejected. Also those who were accepted all had the same “award not available” message. I think it’s safe to say that there is definitely something there. So far, there haven’t been any solid exceptions to the theory.
@aeisrael: Also, the letters are sent out sometime around 5 pm EST on Feb. 15

@HangingOnStars- When did you submit your financial aid info? CSS and FAFSA (if eligible)

I’ll compile some data later on today regarding the ED I thread.

I understand the apparent correlation between a change in FA and acceptances, but I don’t get why some people see “self-service not available” while others see “award access not available”. What’s the difference?
My FA changed to 2014 Award Access Not Available a few days ago, fingers crossed.

I haven’t seen anyone in EDIi thread with the no self service message, just e award access message
